another thought i have on this is the ride height of the FR versus the Cupra?
if i spec up a lovely FL FR 170 DSG in white, with black 18" wheels and K1 kit will it look like a Cupra K1 or will it just look wrong?

i dunno if the FR and cupra have the same suspension height - anyone know?
cheers

The K1 kit differs by having a mesh instead of vanes on the two intakes from the factory K1 Cupra's. As for ride height it is pretty much the same on the FR as the Cupra you cannot actually see any difference I thought they were the same anyhow on the FL.

On the pre-faclift Cupra the suspension was 7mm lower than the FR and 14mm lower than a standard Leon (I have not read anywhere that this has changed).
The kit will look fine on an FR (the ones that dont like the kit would disagree). The K1 was a special addition of the Cupra that came with the kit has standard. Like jezyg the front vents have now changed slightly but you may well see a late model K1 with the revised grills.

good info guys thanks for the help.
the last thing i wanted was to pick up my new car and be gutted it just didnt look right.
as for teh mesh or the other style front grills on teh bumper....im not too fussed.
ultimatly if i get one i'll be badging it up on teh rear as a TDi in some way. i dont want it be a Cupra K1 replica (dont state the obvious that im after a candy white car, with black 18's and K1 kit.... :) ), or i'll have people testing their cars against it thinking its a petrol 240 brake car.
i'll probs have the LEON badge as standard under the boot handle and get a FR TDI and K1 badge added to the rear. then people know its a diseasel not petrol.

lookign good now, im getting closer to placing an order i think

ok to cut a long story short ive got the seat solutions finance quote and all seems well.
basically the car ive specced is:
FR 170 CR DSG
candy white
K1 kit
18" black pavonis
convenience pack

they are giving me 3500 scrappage price for my audi and im chucking in £5k deposit.

ive never bought a new car and although im pretty happy with the figures so far i feel like i should be pushing the dealer for some discount, either by way of knocking something off the price of the car or by leaving the figures as they are and asking them to add options to the car free of charge.

what's your opinions on this? thinking of opening the bidding at asking for the tech. pack (£1375) to be thrown in, which i doubt they will do, but maybe they'd settle at say a bluetooth pack (£215) and a red alcantara seat set (£325) thrown in to make me close the deal.

is this too cheeky?
please advise if you can

for your info ive not driven a 170 CR DSG, no where seems to have one to try. i did drive a 170 pd car with manual and loved the whole feel of the car, then drove a petrol FR with paddle shift dsg to get a feel for the shift (ignoring the feel/sound of the petrol engine!!)
basically im happy enough to choose the 170 cr dsg without driving one, just feel like ive not pushed the dealer at all....

The max you will get off the FR is a 10% discount and the scrappage figure of £3500 is actually very good if you take off the £1000 the goverment are giving Seat are giving youa 2.5K discount. I managed 2K off a non scrappage deal and I could not find anywhere cheaper onlt the same.

I doubt if the dealer will do any further discount maybe some free mats, I would still ask though as you never know but I doubt it. Sounds like a nice car and spec and worth going for even without any further discount!!

Hey, I just picked up my work phone having had a little time off. Nice spec you have chosen. I am expecting a few DSG CR's shortly. They are currently showing as week production 5 and take around 3-4weeks to arrive. I know they will be fantastic.! I sold one yesterday after driving the couple in a Leon FR CR Manual and then in my Bocanegra. They loved it.! They were also looking at the BMW 123d, Audi A3 170 DSG and other top cars. A friend of theirs told them to try and Leon as it was a much better value for money option with a much better standard spec. They bought there and then.

Regarding what you mentioned about the price or getting the options, the dealers don’t get the options free - so this would mean a further discount to the already massive £3,500. The margins on scrappage allow enough margin (after the dealer/manufacture contribution) to clean, PDI and prep the car and possibly supply a full tank of fuel.

I just want you to know with the scrappage deal you are getting a great deal - so don’t worry.! Just buy it and enjoy it.!

We test drove a 120d SE Coupe against the FR and even with the BMW dealer doing the Seats are rubbish Grrrr and BMW is so much better built bla bla. The Leon was a much better and fun package. Having had various BM 1er's and 3er's since 2003 I am biased towards BMW but the bottom line was that the FR was much more fun and as you say value for money with the same if not better residuals than a 1 Series.

ok guys, thanks for the answers, looks like im about there then for the deal, not much play left in it..

i could just ask for mats then and maybe a cupra black grill and leave it at that...

this dealer is was at are part of Jennings group and i walked thro to the mazda side t try a 3 MPS. the mps comes with everything standard, rear vehicle monitoring and blind spot stuff, satnav, cruise, heated seats, LSD, dual climate, auto wipers and lights blah blah blah...and its a wee bit cheaper than the spec of leon ive decided.
i have to say though thte 3 MPS didnt do anything for me. ye it went like stink when i naile dit but on normal driving it was a tad under-whelming!! disappointed to be honest.

still feeling like its the leon.

on our previous discussions last year you reckoned you were cheaper than £2k for supply/fit of the K1 kit, is that still correct?
can you run through a quote based on my above details ans spec and 5k deposit and tell me what you can do it for please...
cheers

Now then Marty...

I think you should expect some sort of discount off the car, I got 13.5% off list price when I got mine - although at the time this was a car already ordered by the dealer and also it was June, so probably a quieter tile sales wise.

Not sure on the £3500 "scrappage" - as already said this is giving you £2500 for the Audi, does this sound about right?? what would you get if you sold it privately??

Unless they are offering you a really good price for the p/ex id be pushing for some discount - or as you say some extras.

Gonna be a nice car, the pic posted on page 1 looks awesome!

Jezy, do you know if when you order the kit front bumper for the new FL FR if they've done away with the vanes/horizontal ridged lines at the side air intakes & that it now looks different at all? I was under the belief that it did or i'm going to have to order the K1 front bumper otherwise. I dont like the lines of the previous kit or the current version if they're still there!

cheers

hey up Chris
i was meaning to call you to talk about this...
as for the theoretical 2500 for my audi? hmmm...maybe id gt a little bit more privately, not a lot more...maybe £3k or 3500 if i really held out for a good sale.
is it worth it?
i could just put it in as scrappage

im 'sleeping on it' as we say. so i will come to a decision early this week. im happy with the car but maybe i'll try squeeze a wee option out of them as a sweetener on the deal. either the bluetooth pack or red alcantara seats. tell them i'll close the deal if they add that.

not too much to ask i dont think.

how long you had yours now then? did you get it june 07 or june 08??

Got mine end of June 07... getting itchy fingers trying to decide on what to get next :D

Much easier to p/ex if your happy with the price - but a few hundred quid off isnt too much to ask I wouldnt have thought

btw - did they still have the bodykitted Exeo at Jennings?

Nope the FL K1 kit still has the vanes or the FL FR with the K1 kit on did and looked no different from the Pre FL Kit. Onlt the K1 Cupra came with the Mesh intakes as far as I have seen??????

Marty, can you definately specify 18" Pavonis trims when ordering factory spec?
And do you know how much extra they would cost?

At the moment i was considering 18" black orions but the pavonis are nicer i think! :)

Also what is the difference in appearance & price diff with with the K1 kit from the FL stardard aero kit?

I think he meant Orions as you cannot specify pavonis.

erm...i just picked the standard car, which the dealer tells me gets delivered to him in factory spec. this dealer then buysin the K1 kit and fits it.
as for teh wheels i simply picked them in the pricelist...and it is black pavonis £275 option as oppose to black orions at £510 option.

dont see why i cant have them.
