advice on oil needed

Has 2 be fully synthetic.vw 507 grade so I beleive.

it`s 5w30 not 5w40. Also called longlife in quantum form (vw/seat brand) Must be spec to vw 507 as Al said. It is listed in halfords under petrol not diesel in castrol edge form, but is correct. And not cheap either around £16 a litre or £45 for 4ltrs

millers do some. i got it for about £8-9 a litre.

it should be the "PD" oil.

Morrisons do Castrol Edge 5W-30W for £11.99 litre

Some of the older 'PD spec' oil is not suitable due to the DPF on the FR170. Just check its up to VW507 and it'll be fine.
