Given that not many people have added a set of four of these tyres to the MK2 Leon, its not something anyone can best advise on perhaps.

That said, I have been looking at getting a set of 888 or R1-R tyres, but am going against the idea now due to Toyos decision to only sell them through certain suppliers, and the recent obscene price increase to £200 each for an R1-R or £210 for a 888 tyre at Camskill who are normally the cheapest. The first question therefore is, does anyone know where these can be had for less money?

The second question is, can anyone give an experienced opinion on cheaper Trackday tyres or should I just look to get a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics and have them double as road/track tyres and save a bundle of cash in the equation? I know Dan has a set of four track tyres and rates them, and I also know that if you look on the likes of Camskill, there is a choice available.

Any help or advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Al

Did you email camskill for a price? They usually give you a discount code to bring the price down.

Yep. Even with the discount code its £200 a tyre.

@ Owen - Nae bother.

Actually, when I re-checked, you save £20 a tyre if you order 4. Same if your order 8.

Damnnnnn. When they first came out they were 140 a tyre. Do toyo not want to sell these, or are we being hit by a weak pound? Id consider yokohamas at that price!

You may aswell order r888s they'ed be cheaper. what about kuhmo or yokohomas, has anyone tried their track semi slicks?

The 888's cost a tenner more dude.

Yokos must be looking alot more attractive now, then theres always dunlops as AMD use on their race car and kumhos

So does that mean r888s are £210 wtf. I thought they were £170ish. think im gonna try the kuhmo v70a ecsta, their only £140 so gonna sling some on the car and see what there made of.

i was thinking of getting really soft tyres just for trackdays and 1/4 miles and then just using normal road tyres on the original wheels so i might go for soft/medium for front and slightly harder for rear as not so much grip is required on rear for racing

Well I can say for a fact that my 888's have killed the wheelspin in 3rd gear in the dry/damp conditions at present, can't wait to try them in warmer weather. They are my new trackday tyres but I have been trying them out in normal conditions out of interest! Very pleased, will probably go for R1R's for my street wheels when they wear out

R1R's are superb everyday summer tyres. However if the price stays at 200 notes a tyre as much as I would like to I dont think I will replace them with another set.
