Here in the UK Mapcare is not provided by Seat Uk, been requested for four years now atleast, so the published updates from the Navigation website are not suppose to work. Avid readers of the Leon thread which has been running since 2013 which currently runs to 31 pages, will know that Exciter from planet Krypton made a break threw in January 2017 for the SD based system finding the patent to the method used to store the files [526] by post 529 he had sorted it. The reboot issue that was being talked about went away.

Interesting a guy on the "grumpy" Ateca board claims this as their own thinking it's a documentation issue with the Here Maps website... err no cryto key on the SD card and the root index file has been side stepped.
ECE 2017/2018 (May / June 2017) Mapcare Update
Navigation Plus
We are just running into a round of navigation updates May / June 2017 "ECE 2017-18" the Navigation Plus ones have been available for sometime for anyone who has Mapcare (readers outside UK). Whilst these are yet to appear on the Seat side of the Here maps website other wise called "Navigation". They have been available on the VW site via a direct link first published on a Russian site but now published on the VW map site:

The German Ateca site Navigation Plus users loaded these up last month and found them to be fine since the map updates are common across the VAG group. Skoda Columbus users have also loaded these up and updated their maps since they haven't been put up on the Skoda site yet. You download the full file if you have a Plus unit with Mapcare (FAT32 is the format of choice on a class 10 SD card) or get up set if you haven't Mapcare .

The grumpy board gives the index to the old ECE 2017 Maps for the update

That can probably be bettered. This is the download to use for the Ateca standard system called Discover Media in VW parlance, ECE 2017-18 [May / June 2017 release] anyone who wants to try:

But don't blame me since I don't have the standard system to test, you just copy your old file back if it doesn't work... the main thing is to back up the contents of the SD card before writing anything to it. For those that feel the need for the Exciter solution copy the said original maps/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS file and overwrite that onto the SD card replacing the new one with the old - the Exciter method. Use 7Zip to unpack the files. The question is whether the Excitee method is still good for ECE 2017-2018 maps, guess so.
Try not to use a Mac since that can generate additional hidden files which can screw things up. There are MAC tools to remove the hidden files which can be found on the net on discussions on updating Discover maps, they are run on the SD card to clean the rubbish files off prior to putting the card in the unit. Some people with Macs do it in a Windows environment.
The MAC issues effects the file update for both the SD and SSD Vag units which is why the DiscoverCare options from the VW website offer a more fool proof method in downloading the map files for both PC and MAC.

The Skoda site is similar but needs a Skoda VIN to access whilst the VW site is open to all. Same files as long as you pick the correct Mib2 unit, standard or high, Discover Media (SD based) or Pro (SSD) respectively.
Either way playing with the files on a Mac after the creation of the SD card means you need to be aware of the hidden files that can be generated which Discover units trip up on.
Yeah... and as pointed out elsewhere the postcode business of whether to use the space or not was introduced in ECE 2017 when you had to leave out the space in postcodes, prior could have them in or out.
