Since the weather has improved lately I've been going out for drives round some quiet roads exploring the handling of the LC ... places I use safely for testing modifications in the middle of nowhere :lol: ... before the new wheels it felt pretty much spot on ...

I've got the later spec LC 17's on now with the same brand tyres as before (Evo V12's) and it feels now as though the rear of the car is moving around a bit when loading hard into bends...

I thought perhaps the pressure were to blame so I've got 33psi all round but it still feels the same ... to me it feels like weak sidewalls ... but could be wrong.

I'm wondering if the extra grip is causing the weakness of the standard suspension to be shown up ... perhaps uprated ARB will sort but was wondering what else I can try in the meantime :confused:

The front is spot on ....
 
I have 25mm front and 28mm rear ARBs on mine and it made lift off oversteer a big issue, had to ensure corners were taken at a decent speed and accelerated out because if it was entered fast and you needed to break the back just wanted to swing out without much invitation.

I think what I'm trying to say is, a rear ARB won't help with what you describe.
 
I found the same with mine. it improved when I spaced the rears.

I'm running 10mm front and 15mm rear. The car feels less twitchy at rear and the spacers improve the look no end.
 
Seems strange to me that the car was fine on the old 16 inch multispokes... I will check the width of tracking later...

So in theory spacing the rear out an extra 5mm more than the front cured the problem?
 
I suppose every set up is different but with my koni and eibach setup the spacers made the rear more stable. its especially noticeable when braking hard. it stops that twitchy feeling.

what tyres are you running? could be soft tyre walls like you mention. I always found the handling with my starfish alloys a bit squidgy. that was with gsd3's. I'm still convinced the rims aren't wide enough for the tyres but we'll not open that can of worms again ;)

Edit: just read your tyres are Evo V12's my bad.

Indeed... it could be sidewall flex of the tyre ... I'm wondering if running higher pressures would help :confused:

You'd think coming from 205/55/16 to a 225/45/17 there would be less flex :whistle:
 
Give it a try. I think DPJ runs his at 36psi all round and swears by it. Although obviously his are 18's.
 
haha, I knew it was .5 difference just wasn't certain on the sizes.

I remember my tyres on the LC sticking quite a bit out from the wheel, put it down to the 'Rim Protection' tyres though.

Does that mean 235 on the LCR will be ok?

As for PSI, I once ran my LC on 45psi all round. Had a very heavy load for Leeds Fest and that's what the filler cap suggested for the rear, then never took it back down as it made my MPG a lot better lol.

IMHO 235/45 will fit but I dont think you'd benefit from it ... 235 tyres are also expensive compared to normal 225/45 :D

Not surprised at 45psi :lol::lol:

IMHO any pressure up to 5psi either side of standard recommended will be fine ...

I'm going to first increase the pressure at the rear by 2psi (35) to see if it cures the movement issue...

Reason for that? - The standard LC pressures (16inch rim) are different front to rear if I remember correctly :D
