Re: Advice please

it's not going to cost you any more to get a breakdown of what they say needs done and ask for an estimate from another garage. it might turn out cheaper to pay the current lot what you already owe them and get the rest of the work done elsewhere than it would be to just let them finish the job.

Re: Advice please

basically what 8bits saying , if you can source the list and get another garage / person to do it for less than £775 all in , then your quids in if not pay the garage the lot to do it

do you know anyone witha trade account etc as Tps 9trade parts specialists supply the parts to seat , i personally use TPS to get my genuine parts alot cheaper than seat sell them

or try sere motors off here for prices , hes a geniune dealer and fairly priced

Re: Advice please

i personally use TPS to get my genuine parts alot cheaper than seat

dealers no longer do 'trade' sales themselves just internal and retail it's all handled by the TPS centres which is VAG's way of serving all the local garages with a one stop multi franchise call centre

handy if you know an account holder or trader

I would also clarify how they can knock 2k of the bill,(maybe they read this thread)and what a piss take offering you £800, what dealer did you take it too

change the complete lump, and done

dealers cost loads to fix stuff and plenty of people dont have 3grand to chuck into a car so would welcome £800 to get a shitter to keep em on the rd and start again, we used to get given cars when i used to fix em, sometimes cost nowt to fix but new parts were hundreds

i would have bid a G lol but then i'd get 225 running gear and swap the lot

So your saying its only going to cost you the price of the bits needed plus another £700 and the car will be up and running?

Seems like alot but considering its cost you £500 already perhaps it isn't too bad.

As for the £800 for your car, that's someone chancing their arm, fair play to him but don't do it.

The gear box alone is worth £300

You could sell the car in bits and buy something else or something cheaper.

im sorry to hear whats happened, but i personally think you went wrong by going to a seat dealer in the first place..

if it happened to me, i'd get recovered home, the dragged to a local mechanics that i know and trusted.. surely even if you found someone else now you'd still be quids in than sticking with the dealer?

dealers are complete mugs!

what gets me is that part of the way dealers sell themselves is that they are the 'experts' and have the 'knowledge', 'expertise' and 'special equipment' that means they can accurately dignose faults etc...
and imply other garages wont.

So charging 500 quid to diagnose the problem is rediculous.
In my experience dealers screw you over every time.

They are making out they are being nice by keep the price down and helping you out, but i see it as they have charged a silly amount inititially and now are using this to keep the work now you have hinted at going elsewhere.
Sadly this may end up being the best option for piece of mind and havnig some comeback.

Id also expect them to understand and state why the engine was starved and therefore know they have fixed the issue.

one of the boys just bought an a4 05plate and i think his oil pick up went , his bill was £1300 from audio

but he didnt drive it when the oil lite was flashing , ( i advised not to drive so luckily he took my advise by the sounds )

Well just been to pick the car up from Liverpool Seat after a call this week saying that it's finished and running great.

Paid the bill £1290 they brought the car out.

1st thing the passanger window was down theve took it down and would not go back up so they say its the regulator and want £280 to replace so i was glad it wasnt raining:censored:

Next thing two fresh scratches on the rear panel they will have to speak to the technitions on Tuesday to see if they have done it,if they say they havent my hard luck:censored:

And to top it all i drove a mile up the road the engine comes on and starts running like a bag of shite:censored::censored::censored:

Got back to the garage as they were leaving so the cars left there now until they are back in work:censored::censored:

Gunnie do you have a detailed receipt with a breakdown of all the costs in detail? parts, numbers, labour, etc. Post it if you can.

Whenever I go to a garage, even a trusted one, the first thing I always ask for is a detailed estimate. After the job is done I always ask for the old parts back. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid but one time I had a clutch issue, took the car to local garage where they changed the complete clutch. The bill was hefty so I asked for the old parts. Turned out the clutch was still in great shape and it was just the release bearing that died. Quick word with the manager stressing that I won't get ripped off and I paid a fraction of the original bill and got to keep the old and new clutches :)

Ask for the old parts, ask them to show you what was wrong with them. Get a detailed cost report with part numbers.

I generally offer to buy cars off people of they dont want to spend the cash, i've just bought a clio yesterday where the gearbox went, will fix it up and sell it. He wasnt being cheeky, as said some people if they get a big bill would rather spend the cah towards another/newer car. the age old thing especially with cambelt failures of it 'never being the same' i men ffs, they're mechanical, its not like the cylinder head and bottom end have an emotional attachment is it!!!

I have a detailed bill will post soon £690 labour:(

I supplied the head as i bought of someone,so im thinkin thats what they will say is the cause so just been intouch with the guy i bought it off and it did come of his working car and he put brand new valves in them and has the reciept still.......

Im just pissed because they reckon they did a test drive
