I keep getting clunking noises when i go over speed bumps, it only happens on the way onto the speed bump and does'nt do it when leaving the speed bump. It also does this on road surfaces which are quite uneven. It is coming from the front of the car and does not sound like metal hitting metal. I have had it into Bickets, Kilmarnock and they have replaced the wishbone bushes with the revised ones and replaced the top strut mount bearings. I took the car to Arnold Clark in Glasgow and was told that this is normal however i can't see how this can possibly be normal on any car? And it never did this when i first got the car in October. I am totally sick of this and i just want it sorted, it is ruining the pleasure of driving. If anyone knows of a really good VAG specialist near where i live where i could get this checked out would be great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

a really don't know if this would be of any help, but when me and my mates fitted my coilovers i was getting a sort of banging noise when i went over speed bumps. it was because i need new drop links

Without trying to hijack the thread, is there a visual way of checking the drop links? Some sort of sign that they're past their best? Which part of it actually fails?

my moneys on drop links but why the 2 garages didnt pick them up is a bit of a mystery, should be one of the first things they checked..

I don't know how to check them but when mine was broke I just tapped it with my hand when I was replacing them and it just Seperated from the balljoint :O

suppose you could just give them a rattle to check :S

thanks for the help guys, as to the theory that arnold clark came up with (this is normal) does anyone elses ibiza make funny noises when going over speed bumps or potholes etc. or are they nice and quiet?

Usually I hold onto the arb and move it up and down whilst holding onto the ball joint, can normally feel the play.

I don't actually own an Ibiza, but I can tell from a mile off that Arnold Clark are shovelling some ripe stuff. No 'clunk' can ever be regarded as normal, common, expected, typical, etc. Unless it's a Vauxhall, then their suspension noises actually come factory fitted... ;)

Dashboard squeaks and possibly the odd rattle from older cars are the only noises I'd expect from a SEAT.

I live on a road with speedbumps from start to finish - lots of banging/klunking all the time, I've just gotten used to the noise now... got fed up changing parts...

Gotta disagree with people who says its not normal, its certainly not right, but crap clunky suspension seems to be normal with Ibizas! Just do a search on here. I've had problems for over a year now. Been to garage loads who were more than useless. Clunks when turning and going over bumps, driver side, also a steering rack rattle as well. Very very annoying. If anyone has ideas? And drop links seem ok...

Also, what are symptoms of wishbone bushes going?

Creaking sounds

Well if this is considered normal how do i go about 'tightnening' the suspension up? On a side note the clunking was not half as bad today  But I think i should have it checked out by a indie VAG specialist before i start replacing parts

Right well i managed to locate the drop links today on the driver side and gave it a good shake but there is not movement in them of what i could tell? What are the arb clamps and how do i check these?

I've also given my drop links a good tug and not seen anything odd so it looks like we're both in the same position. What I was going to do next is disconnect one end and go over a known place where I get the noise. At least then that will narrow it down to the ARB.

The clamps are just inside the wheel well, if you follow the ARB round and in towards the engine you can see where they are bolted to the chassis. If that part is failing the whole ARB will be knocking against the chassis.

when i fully lock the steering wheel to the rights i get a scrapping noise from the left fron passengers wheel. i also get the creaking aswell in my car. once i get some money together i think i am going to replace my suspension. i too live in an area populated by speed bumps. gotta thank the car thiefs for that one. My car is only three years old with 15k on the clock not what i would expect in a car of that age. but depends how much it has been rallyed around in that time!
forgot to say aswell. its worse when its cold outside. not as bad when its warmer. anyone else have the same conditions?

cheers
