Hey guys

Next year I'm looking to get either a 1.9 FR or Cupra, I was wondering the definitive differences between the 2, I've tried to search but not finding much!

What I know of is:
17" alloys
FMIC
30BHP
Dials
Cupra interior
Vent covers

What else is there? I really want to know the tiniest things as need to know if it's worth paying the extra insurance!!

Thanks all!
Jamie

with the dervs i think its worth getting the cupra if your wanting to modify it with having the bigger turbo to start with and being able to map to 200bhp straight of

Hi,

My facelift FR has 17s standard and I'm sure my dampers say Sachs on them.

The front bumper is slightly different too due to the FMIC and not needing airflow around the fog light.

Insurance was the main reason for me as FR was £700 and Cupra £1800

see i want to change my car next year and would want the look of the cupra but whats making me go for the FR will be insurance. i will do quotes at the time but pretty sure a cupra will be a fortune

If I could have afforded the insurance - I'd have plumped up and bought the Cupra! But at 19, the insurance for my FR was £600 and for the Cupra it would have been £1600.

As said, the Cupra comes with things like the FMIC, the 312mm AP Racing brakes, little bit more refined inside I'm led to believe, and a few other extras that make it a better base for modding from.

Get some insurance quotes for each, test drive each and see what you prefer - at the end of the day an FR can be mapped up to 170bhp on a stage 1 - which is at least as quick as a standard Cupra.

Well - I guess if you're willing to pay the extra insurance - I'd go for it. However my guess is you wouldn't be able to mod it for ages without affecting your premium by a monumental amount.

You wouldn't be disappointed with an FR though - especially with a remap!

The worst thing about the insurance is you paying for the 'cupra badges'. In reality the cupra is 30bhp more but with better parts to compensate. Insurance annoys me lol as I would of got the cupra but was quoted 900 for an fr and 2200 for a cupra :(

I was looking at a cupra aswell, but the insurance is insane, it seems that way with cars that go over the 150bhp barrier, it wont matter next year anyway, cuz il be old enough to have one cheap.

As an example of insurance, mine is £900 year. I'm 25 with 6 years no claims and 6 points, my post code is somewhere in the middle

i got the FR byt wish i had gone with the cupra...as now want the extra power and have spent bit of money trying to get it up to cupra standard...insurance is the big thing though

25, 3 years ncb, 3 years driving. Adrain flux have quoted 1k for full comp, breakdown, courtesy car. Not bad seeing as i live in Fallujah.

Thats all mods declared.

25 is a big step up as well.

im 24...5 NCb and 6 years driving...all mods delcared and i live in baghram...paying 700 with flux....for a cupra...standard it was well over a 1k

done a couple of quick quotes......im 20 2 years NCB and i got cupra £3500 and FR both tdi....£1500, should be lower by my actuall renewal thiis was just guesstimates with made up dates etc

so by the sounds of it, you could be paying about £100 a month more for the cupra at your age? is it worth it? is it bo%^&s. maybe its just my age, im 25 now and getting old in the head too.

i cant talk though at 19 i had a 306 rallye which wasnt cheap, no regrets :)

well im sitting with my 1.2 just now and paying like £1200 for tht but renewal in sept and i dont wanna be paying anything more than £750 really.

Jump in a time machine and add 20 years and you wont believe how cheap it becomes  :D

Ok back on thread.

The Cupra is double the insurance of an FR even for an old git like me. It really dont make sense when you think of risk as even the standard FR is quick enough to catch you out at times esp braking too late etc.
Its only 30 bhp and has far better brakes so more Cupra's must get stolen i guess
