Tidy Little setup there :D

I found when i fitted a cone filter i had quite a bit a lag low down, althrough from reading posts i excpect it was because it fitted the cone directly to the MAF, rather than extending it over to the wing.

Joeb - do you do any track days / have you done any logs once the engine is properly hot? My main concern is heat soak, so cars all set up for performance reasons. But would like that lil growl too ;) haha!

Space the filter into the wing and install a good cold air feed, this will keep the filter cool and help reduce the 'boggy' feeling. Cooling on a turbocharged car is done via the intercooler anyhow so if you feel you're getting too much heat soak as it is, it might well be time to fit a FMIC.

FMIC is only turbo cooling not engine cooling (& looking to fit one in Sept). I may just run two filters - closed cone with the direct cold feed (current set up) for the track where the engine gets VERY hot, and then open cone for the gentle road use and to be yellow and "pretty" under the bonnet!

Reasons why I just said that:

Air density: If I run 2 closed filters the air should be a similar temperature and therefore a similar density. Running a closed filter will bring in cold air which will be more dense than the hot air being brought in through the open filter. The denser heavier air will generally sink, where as the less dense hot air will rise meaning that the less dense air will get drawn into the engine quicker. It comes back to the equation of an ideal gas pV = NKBT from physics days again.

hello mate

no i havnt done any track days, not planning to do so.

those results were from 4th gear beans from 3k - 6.5k (did about 3/4 runs each and just took the best results from each day and posted here)

heat soak is still there with the open cone and oem filter - about the same to be honest (after about the 3rd/4th run the performance decreases)

ive been looking into a FMIC but whats the point really when im not on full beans all the time and im not constantly giving it the full bollox ripspeed :D

FMIC is engine cooling, the air filter actually has nothing to do with it. The only reason that you want a cold filter is to give the turbocharger the capability of sucking in greater volumes of air, once this air passes the filter and into the turbocharger, it becomes super heated and therefore loses all of it's cooling properties.

Just received my new Jetex filter through the post,Thanks go to Bill at Badger5 for his great service. After fitting car definitely sounds meatier when you bang your foot down, there's possibly a tiny touch of lag as it's having to pull the air in as requested.I'll get some logs done and see how it fares compared to previous, smoothed box and cotton filter with a 3" cold feed.

Hi Mate,

Whats the Part Description of that Forge Silicone section you have before the filter i would like that as well?

Captain

pleased about that.....well am not,but pleased i could only order that one....:blink::blink:

you buy performance filters for power surely..
jetex coloured range does'nt have much size offering and not rated to higher power - simples, so choice is the blue one if wanting Jetex, which is what was sent.

My mum could knit you a cover, any colour except tartan. Non-oiled wool too and very breathable;):D

Respray the car blue?
