Funny how everyone bangs on about speed in this thread blah blah blah.....yawn, and no one mentions build quality

I would choose a MK5 R32 over an LCR any day of the week

Call me old, but as a daily driver, taking into account the "whole" package, the R32 wins out everytime

My ten year old pissrat $hits all over my old leon (also ten years old) for interior and it's almost factory like condition inside!

I would like to come back to Seat one day to get a fast version i.e. MK2 Leon Cupra, but driving an old car like mine and the build quality is much better considering it's age, then apart from speed, Seats having nothing to offer. You get what you pay for

Now my car beat.....oh wait it won't as it's slow :cartman:

Spoken like a true passat driver:lol::D

but owning both i have to agree, I adore the cupra but the passat is a better built car.

Everyone do far has said that the cuprammonium is rubbish in Venda but with the money you save on tax Insurence and fuel you can make the leon handle just as good in the dry that is the 4wd is always better but if you sound the money you can spank the r32s ass everywhere ;)

Entirely irrelevant comparisons as you are having to modify the cupra to make it handle as well, and even then the Leon would only match it in the "dry" and still the R32 would win in the wet

But then both are irrelevant comparisons as we are comparing 2wd Vs 4wd

Modifying a turbo vs NA car in terms of cost and bang for buck, the turbo will always win out.

Funny how everyone mentions kicking the R32 when it's standard Vs their modified LCR's

I think as a direct comparison in a straight line with both cars "standard" would be a very different story

Are we saying you have to modify the LCR to make it at least equal to beat a factory built R32?

This is where opinions differ and every car suits each person differently. IMO, you are right about the speed factor, they generally are pretty looking cars on the outside, a little less luxurious inside than VW & Audi and aimed at people who want a sporty looks or performance. These are the people who buy them, because this is what they want.

It's unfair to compare your TDi Passat, aimed at the daily driver/Sunday Driver ;) to a Cupra/Cupra R that's aimed at a completely different market. If I wanted a car that wallowed around bends, gave me a smooth ride on our awful roads and was as pleasurable to sit in as my sofa, then a Passat or similar would be high on my list however, I wanted a sporty hatchback with stiffer suspension, loud looks, good performance out of the box and with good potential to carry on.

You outgrew they above, granted you Leon gave you nothing but sh*te which probably pushed you but I like mine for what it is, it's not a high end VW but then again, VAG never wanted to make it or sell it that way.

i guess it all comes down to what you want from a car.

a fast scrabble wagon (LCR) or a comfy cruiser (R32).

If the LCR was proper 4WD with LSD, independant rear suspension and lost a bit of weight it would be a great car.

somthing like the evo AYC setup would be great.

how can you compare 2 different generations of cars, one based on the mk4 the other based on mk5 platform?

Please compare the LC/LCR to a Mk4 Golf - VW is so ugly and depressing :/

but the Mk5 Golf is in a different class,

Comparing a modified LCR against a R32 is completely pointless, they're too very different cars, offering two very different driving experiences.

I have a friend who had a R32 with a coilover kit and Full ARB kit and the handling was nothing short of incredible, it was at home on a twisty B road. My Remapped, Coilover-ed LCR was no match through the bend, he would would just simply disappear into the distance.

I'm not hating on the LCR, for me the LCR offers more MPG, performance, tunability and practicality than any other car in its price bracket by a long way..... that's why i chose it. Yeah the R32 is an expensive car to own and run, but so is a scubbie / evo, its doesn't mean i don't want own one, its just means its harder to justify.

Standard for Standard = R32 but you pay for it, even the MK4's are going 10k for good ones still.

When my 5 was stolen I looked at the 4's more 'raw' in terms of the driving experience the 5 is refined. As I imagine the new Cupra's are.

Thing is even if we talk about modified LCR's then we need to talk about modified R32's SO.... 3.2 V6 Turbo converted 4wd R32 anyone???

Lol not comparing a TDI directly, just the general overall build quality of VW Vs Seat ;)

I had a MK3 golf 16v GTI years ago, directly after I sold my MK3 Ibiza cupra and the build quality then was still much better, so like for like of build quality of two sporty hot hatches (well as hot as the lardy MK3 ever was) and still years on Seat continue with lesser quality builds overall

If I want a decent fast car with a good all round package and build quality then sadly it won't be a seat. It's not all about who I can beat on the road, I have grown up and way past that point now

Don't get me wrong I loved my Leon Cupra and do miss it despite it's faults, rattles etc, but for me it's about the whole package, speed and build quality, focusing more on build quality as I value my license

Mind you if we all wanted the same things would be pretty boring.

If I'm honest, I haven't noticed any build issues with mine, maybe lucky (touch wood) or maybe due to the low mileage. I won't be returning to SEAT after the LCR though, I have noticed a drop in interior build quailty in the MK2 range most denfinitely and they aren't much to look at IMO. BMW will be getting my money next :)

I have to admit my mates mk4 golf anni is alot better built inside than mine even little things like dropping the lower dash the golf has like 10 screws an extra pannel where the leon has about 4 lol abd this helps get rid of the annoying squeaks , I love the look of my car r32s

I see what your saying my point is the money you save on buying a cupra you can get more power and good handling so you wil beat an R32;) I no you can't really compare 4wd and 2wd;) but beating the smug w@nkers is always a laugh :D

Probably in the same boat as you for the next car, I'm going for an M3 (waits for the BMW drivers are tossers comments :cartman:) or an Audi maybe.

Unless SEAT build the next Leon as well as an A3 I don't think I'll go back to Seat.

Unfortunately Audi would never allow that, as we know, Seat is the poorer cousin which is a massive shame

However if Seat did do that, then it would be around the exact same price bracket as the Audi, and one of the reasons we buy Seats is due to the price saving, and this key aspect would quickly disappear if Seat started to build to the same standard

price over quality

Agree with all this about the Audi thumb over seat's head.

Just look at the original LCR same car as the S3 but the S3 was quicker (on paper), got 4wd and those simply stunning seats!!!.

Same thing is now happening with VW though, the new Golf R is 265 turbo 4wd and basically a new S3.... BUT how can Audi allow this??? well because the new RS3 will be over 300bhp thats how and the new S3 will prob get 280ish.

I hate how VAG wont give the LCR 4WD its upsetting that.

Let's start a peition for a 4WD UK Mk3 LCR, NOW ;)

Yeah I agree mate, is a shame. But my LCR is good enough build for me currently.

Some of the panels are making some creaking noises etc but it's 5 years old so expected on a daily driver that is the poorer vag cousin.
