Revs on Cupra

Hi guys

I just want to know if this is normal for my car! Its a stage 2+ car, however when running in stock and driving along in say the 4th gear, if I plant my foot I notice the revs jump up as if they are going up quicker than the speedo, notice it happen in 3rd but more so in 4th or higher gears! Now is this a sign that my clutch is on its way out? It does this when I have my revo turned up but thought that was due to the nature of the aggressive map but it's happening in stock! Any ideas??

I'd say around 30mph.. But the clutch seems fine to me, isn't biting high. I do get the traction control kicking in too.

30mph in 3rd gear wouldnt spin the wheels unless your tyres are really shoddy or the road is stupidly greasy.

Pov the front tyres could do with replacing. But why am I getting the revs jumping so erratically?

if the engine revs are rising but the car isnt accelerating id say its your clutch slipping the power away. its always more noticable at low speed when in a high gear WOT pull. low speed high gear pulls is the easiest way to destroy a clutch wheather stock or mapped

I was thinking the same! The revs rise, no power, the revs drop slightly and then I get a surge of acceleration!

Adam How long have you has 2+ on your car? how many miles have you done on the clutch?

Its been on just over a year, bought the car modded mate and I've done around 3k miles in it since I've had it. The thing is the clutch does seem fine, this only happens when when in higher gears and when it goes over say 4000rpm but I do get the traction control kicking in!

Without wanting hijacking (sorry OP) - what if the car is stage 2+ and you open the throttle in say 5th and the revs drop temporarily before rising again from about 4500rpm to 3500rpm? Boost issue or fueling issue? I don't have the RS4 valve yet.

Yeah, it's an odd one. Had the map and pump on about 2 weeks. Seen the problem twice.

Both times were at fairly high speed. One was about 4500rpm in 6th - the other 4000rpm in 5th. Opened the throttle, not really to boot it - but reasonably aggressive, then the revs dropped. Now I think the revs went back up - not sure by how much, but to be honest I was a little shocked and eased off.

there is a 5200 rpm flat spot

David Swansons Cupra did exactly this, and the clutch and flywheel were both replaced.

My car is stage 2+, did exactly the same and had its clutch replaced yesterday. When we had all part out the clutch plates looked fine (no excessive wearing) but the flywheel had more than a cm play and was completely useless).
So now I'm waiting for a new flywheel and than some Sachs plates will go in.

They have play as standard dude. You would probably be surprised what a properly screwed flywheel does .

I realize they have a bit of play (there was a new tdi flywheel laying around as a good comperision) but this was just too much (about four times as much) and the mechanic (one of the best VAG mechanics I know) told me it was on it's way out and refused to re-use it.
