Just to let everyone know, the ibiza is up and running :D just need to adjust the linkage and sort a rattly exhaust. As its hitting something when the car revs (the big steel block protecting the drive shaft?)

Any help and comments please :) This is like the happiest day of my life!

take the block off, it doesnt make much difference to anything. have you bent the heatshield in the process? its always good to see another mk2 fixed again and not scrapped.

Is it in the air? it's a dead quick job to adjust the gear linkage with (IIRC) a 10mm spanner - you just need to get the 'box in neutral, then get someone to loosen the linkage, then someone else to hold the gearstick in the middle, then tighten the linkage again.

Your exhaust sounds like it's in a funny place.

Let me know if you need a hand with the linkage, you're only close

Adjusted it a few times, will get someone to just hold it in the middle whilst I adjust it again (thanks for the offer Mark, if it all goes doolali i know to call) :) It just sounds like my downpipe is hitting something in the low rev band :) once Pulled away can't hear it.

has exhaust come apart between center pipe and downpipe?

Oo didnt think of that, we did do a fair bit of rocking to the engine to get get the mounts and gearbox on. Will have a good look tomorow, shame that I have only just taken it off the axle stands(which ripped my side skirts off) lol :<

i always take the skirts off when working on stands or when car is jacked up. hopefully the rattle will just be the 2 pipes rubbing a little where the clamp is.

Hopefully, Unfortuneatly I didnt put the clips on properly when i put the skirts on, they are mainly just tiger sealed and zip tied on

Bit of a problem, got my gear linkage sorted but when i go into first it feels like second gear when i pull away, same with the other gears, some are higher some are lower? Any ideas?

my gearbox felt different after swapping. has slower 1st gear, same 2nd but faster 3rd and 4th gear.

Go out & see what speed you're going at 2900rpm - it should be 59mph

The 1.4 8v rev limit is 5800rpm IIRC, which is 118mph - this test will confirm if you have a longer FD (from a diesel)

When I bought the gb, the description said seat ibiza 1.4 Mk2 1999 gearbox. Did they do a 1999 1.4 diesel mk2 :S

Nope, have you actually read the gearbox code from the boxes themselves and compared? There is no other way that the gearing would feel different in the way you describe other than having different ratios.

EnGbudd in 'maybe not quite as advertised on eBay shocker'

Or are you driving around with the brakes dragging?

Did this and at 2900 revs in fifth gear, speed was 59 mph exactly lol and thats with the standard steelies aswell. hmmm
