Hi guys

does anyone know how much in litres of oil there is between min and max on the dipstick
its on a Cupra if that makes a difference thanks.

also my dealership told me there is an acceptable oil usage before its classed as a problem but couldnt tell what that usage was?
Has anyone else heard this?

It's 1 litre from min to max. My FR TFSI used to drink oil more than any other car I've had: I used about 4 litres just in top-ups over about 30k miles.

My CR1.6 has used about 300ml (on top of an oil change at service of course) in its first 10k miles, for comparison.

I've read elsewhere that the 2.0 TFSI engines just use a lot of oil and it's normal, although I was a bit shocked how much I needed to top up my FR as no other car I've had has done that.

its gotta be a maximum of 1 Liter, Last time i had mine below middle and just a quarter to get it filled up. But the Cupra does consume oil and thats what the dealership says in here.
Mine uses around quarter to half every 10,000 kms which I think is normal!

My cupra uses nowt, not even a little bit, but yes it's 1 litre between min and max on the dipstick.

this is the first time its used any and seems to be doing so at an alarming rate

im thinking maybe oil seals on the turbo starting to go?

Alright mate my FR uses approx 1 litre in 10000 miles.
As for acceptable oil usage I don't know about Seat but Alfa Romeo give an acceptable oil usage in weight ie 500 grams to a 1000 miles which is approx a litre to 1000 miles.
it is very rare for them to use this much but depends on usage and how hard they are driven when cold.
I know it's a different brand but just to give you an idea.
Also the Alfa one is listed in the handbook

To those that installed a catchcan on their tfsi it would be strange if their car didn't use any oil.
If you see how much oil a tfsi throws back in the inlet system it is nothing but normal to use approx. 1 liter oil in 5-10.000 km.
pull a hose from your intercooler (lowest point) and be amazed how much oil comes dripping out.
(oil usage will increase with rising turbo pressure).
I recently saw a stock tfsi with a lot of blue smoke and rising oil levell, dealer found out that fuell was leaking into the oil system (failing hpfp seal).

just been out to check my level still low , also had a sniff like you do  and it stinks of petrol , hmmmmm its not going up but my oil smells just like petrol , its not driven hard when cold , allowed to fully warm up.

Merry Christmas everyone.

VAG state that 1L of oil per 1000km is normal if you get anywhere near that usage in my book you do have a problem even the worse 2l TFSi offenders use about 1L every 2-3000miles.

My oil does smell of petrol a little and it doesn't really use a lot of oil about 0.5l every 3k or so.

My FR drinks oil like an Essex girl downs WKD.

Not sure if its an engine thing, or a DSG thing...

My k1 hardly used any oil and I used to drive that at WoT pretty much everywhere. The tt has an easier life but this car is drinking oil like mad! These Tfsi seem weird. Some people go through alot of oil, and others don't. Newer tsi and Tfsi run their oil at 10 degrees higher than the older ones though to try and stop the sooting of the valves. I'd presume higher oil temp means it will burn more oil, but then again oil burning point is silly high anyway

On the "Using Oil" front.....I think i may have a drama...:(! I parked on my mums drive tonight and as i pulled away i noticed some fresh oil on the drive....I then went to my brothers and pulled away and guess what....even more this time...???? + strong smell of burning oil. Can anyone give me any pointers as this is new to me.. Thanks in advance as always.

After checking my oil today i noticed it was right at the min level. Whats the best oil/ grade to use on the TFSI engine?
