might be leaving the seat world after 3 brilliant years :(, basicaly the cupra has been getting dear to run with the fuel costs. i try and drive it slow but its like its always goading me to give it some! also iv got my first kid on the way in the summer and im thinking of calming down a bit and hopefully save dosh aswell. fancy a bit of luxury if im losing power and have been looking at is 220d and c220d aswell. both around 170hp but im hoping thel be ok. any thoughts?

Unless you do big mileage it's gonna be more expensive to change from the rapido cupra. My old mans got a new c class and whilst it is nice relaxing and smoothnit truly is an old mans car

its ridiculus though isnt it lads, end of ther day i dont do massive miles, around 12k a year 30 miles a day, a bit more on a weekend. im averaging 23mpg! super unleaded is same price as diesel aswell so i cant win. im going to see a lexus IS220d with the bollox. heated leather seats' rain sensors, hids, cd changer etc etc. id love a bit of luxury only prob is i dont think they map

Yeah, it's getting to the point where it's gonna kill off performance cars, I can't go over to diesel is what I keep saying to myself, oh well mate you'll be joining hypermiling forums next!

my old mans got the c220 sport which is 170bhp blue efficiency engine. He says its one of the best hes had out of the usual audi a4's, bww 3 series and lexus range.

The other day he did 800 miles (mostly motorway but some in city centres) with a heavy right foot and still averaged 47mpg.

haha no mate im not going on a merc or lexus forum! that part will die when the cupra goes :(. with the young un on the way aswell i cant tear arse it about aswell. time to grow up :cry::cry: tbh aswell you cant go fast with all the traffic on the road and cameras, when you get chance theres potholes and **** slippy weather to contend with. am i too young to do it though at 25 this year?!

cheapo runabouts tend to cost you though when they **** up ha, our lass hasnt got a special motor aswell so a nice car would be nice. just need to see what my settlement figure is now

Try taking your pflow off and drive it sensible and see if you gain any mpg. rather than change it even try 1 tank normal unleaded and 1 super to help the cost slightly.
When my first child was born I tried this too. Went to an Alfa Romeo diesel well had 3 and they were all shite.
I then bought a saab 180 td and got rid of that for my Leon. Yeah my Leon averages 10 mpg less but dosen't go wrong (touch wood) more exciting and reliable.
i average 300 miles a week and it costs me approx £11 a week extra than diesel but petrol has cheaper servicing and no dreaded dpf.
I would go as far to say I wouldn't have another modern diesel car.
The saying stands you get what you pay for, and to change your car is expensive and therfore at £11 a week extra on fuel you wouldn't get break even for years.
The Leon is great family car and has more room than most

If you want a more refined ride but still a very quick car - BMW 330d!

In the E46 shape 204bhp standard, with a conservative remap it'll go up to 240bhp and 380lb/ft.

In the E90 shape 240bhp standard, with a remap up to 280bhp quite easily!

I get around 34mpg around the city and up to 55mpg on the motorways on mine! E90 should be around the same if not a couple of mpg better.. B)

I would be wary of IS220d, remember looking at them some time back, and their owners' forum is full of people getting nowhere near advertised fuel economy (we have that here with FR TDIs, but not even remotely as bad). Its a 2.2 engine and Japanese diesels seem to be worse on fuel than euro at the moment.

If you are set on changing from Seat, have a look at bmw 320d's, they handle well and economy is not bad. 318d even better but you lose more power.

Not sure why all of a suddent people feel the need to sell up, take a depreciation hit (twice) for the sake of say 18p a litre difference in the price of petrol.

In the grand scheme of things, its £9.90 more per tank at £1.40 a litre than it would be at £1.22. Round that to £10 a tank for easy calculations.

If you fill once a week, thats £520 more a year.

If you run a diesel car and double your MPG, you are only saving £260 over what you would have saved almost a year ago when you bought the car based on a diesel using half the amount of fuel a Cupra would.

Not saying its good/right its so much more now, nor sticking up for any government or any policy (I feel the opposite), but to sell up would cost loads more on admin/sales/depreciation costs.

On the other hand, if you do 12000 miles a year and used 55 litres a week, you do 19mpg at a cost of £4k. Double that to 38mpg at the same price, and thats £2k.

Sit tight and enjoy I say :)

I have been in the same boat, and have taken a hit and part swopped for a EXEO Sport Tech 170, [less VAT etc.] and I will sadly miss the Leon

 +1

I've been banging on about the 330d (E90>) a fair bit recently as it's an awesome all rounder (seriously thinking of going DERV myself, as much as I don't want to it just makes more sense financially), good economy and very good performance wise, obviously if you want serious power then go for the 335d but the 330d is the pick of the bunch from the research I've done.

My mate has a IS 220D and is getting around 32-36mpg. The leg room in the back is not great, and 6th gear can only really be used above 80mph, as the gearing is so long.

Having said that, the dealer customer service is the best he’s ever experienced, and he’s never had a fault in 2 1/2 years of ownership - He did manage to get stuck a few times in the snow, being rear wheel drive.

BMW 320D worth a look, but the dealers are also very poor.

Passat CC ?

Good luck with whatever you decide :)
