Another quote from AMD from over on VAGOC...

Stage 2 will be avaliable for when the exhausts are avaliable. The first batch will be coming at the end of the month.

We wouldn't really recommend just fitting a down pipe and cat, the bores will be different to the standard cat back and you will speed the flow up only to slow it back down again through the standard exhaust.

AMD also told me id get about 10Hp just from fitting a cat back:blink:..... of course they would say that, its a sales pitch plain and simple. They make more money selling a TBE than selling a full system

Consider forcing air through 6 panel filters on top of each other. Its quite restrictive. remove 3 of the filters and you have halved the restriction, so alot more flow for a lot less effort. You dont need to remove every single restriction to make the gains.

Its the catalytic converters and restricted bends that slow the flow down. The main restriction on stage 1 remap is keeping the exhaust gas temperatures sensible. Remove the pre cat, fit a more efficient second cat, increase the bore, the EGTs drop, you have a much increased flow to match so the map can be more aggressive.

Whilst you might make 1-2Hp difference additional gain by adding the cat back, its not really good value for money IMO. I think its wrong to tell people they need a full TBE for stage 2 when they dont. Loads of GTI, vRS, Cupra, and STs, VXRs etc drivers running just the downpipe whilst still making neigh on identical figures as the guys with the TBE's. As i have said Ive fitted both the downpipe and cat back separately on 2 separate stage 2 cars now with feck all gains notable after adding the cat back to the car apart from extra noise.

Obviously i will admit the full TBE will be the best in terms of weaning every last Hp out of your car, but people should know that they don't necessarily have to spend out £1000 of their hard earned cash straight away for stage 2, and can instead do it in stages. if they want the full system.

Also not everyone wants the noise.

Also regarding joining the 3" downpipe with the standard oem bore..Would it really slow down flow that much, i cant see it personally. Wouldnt it have the effect of a 'venturi' system and speed up?

Yes I agree. I've never actually put an aftermarket exhaust on any of my cars (I've only ever had 2 though) but I know for a fact the cat-back system definetly won't give a 10 bhp gain. Perhaps the full TBE system would, maybe even more.

vRSy: How easy would it be to delete the pre-cat from a Cupra?

On the TFSI its easy. Not seen the 1.4TSI yet, but id presume its the same. The precat is there to aid cold start emissions as it heats up the turbo faster, so id presume its right next to the turbo.

these are jon-tfsi's pics:

Shatter it with a few wacks of the 'persuader', the cat material is brittle, and only thin and just make sure you shake all the material out.

i have ordered my turbo back exhaust, re-map and forge induction kit from AMD and im waiting for my exhaust to arrive. the whole lot cost me £1627 roughly that also includes rolling road before and after and print outs and fitting and vat. my friend is also getting his car tuned there aswell and has a Abarth 500 and he is getting turbo back exhaust,re-map,springs and forge induction kit but his costs £2154. i must say that AMD have to be some of the most helpful people and even if you ask silly questions they are more that happy to answer them.

be god to see the results. Ask them to do before and after runs though so we can see the ACTUAL gains between stock and stage 2 rather than just figures which could be quite inflated.

When are you going in for this?

Nice, have you sorted the brakes and chassis to cope with the extra power?

Ok I want this exhaust... Just talked to Backdraft and they advised a stage 2 was the best way to go. I have asked for some prices.

If it is just a Forge Twincooler and Intake I think I will be just give it to backdraft to sort out.

One thing I will also need to do is make sure I do the brakes and coilovers. Anyone have a good place to get the coilovers from. Seem to not list them for the MK5 on a lot of sites.

Should just need an intake+TBE for stage 2 i would have thought.

i really want to go stage 2 one day...just cant risk losing the warranty ATM so the turbo back exhaust is out of the question cause of the remap required but i quite fancy the cat back just for some asthetics/ better sound.....would i be able to upgrade this to the full turbo back system at a later date?

they quoted a very good price for the Forge parts. The only thing that has puzzeld me a little is Miltek wont send them the exhaust??!!! but they are a miltek dealer... Strange :( So they have to get the exhaust from AMD or Awsome... No idea why and nor do they. There not sure how this wil affect the price and free fitting option :(

All in It looks like it wil cost aroun £1500-£1600 Not bads me think. But with the Coiloves and brake upgrade we could be looking at another 1K
