Might have to get myself one on payday then, cars definitely lost power since the new air filter and coupler went on. No idea why but it's driving me mad (excuse the pun) and I've checked hoses for boost leaks everything seems fine.

What else you got planned for after tomorrows RR? Are you going to stage 3 map?

Yeah, I'd highly recommend the TIP.

Are you noticing the power loss lower down? The jetex will feel a bit laggy lower down than a standard airbox even, but the gains are when your on the move! Maybe I don't notice it so much being remapped? Just double check everything you can, if it's not a hose it could be a plug if it's more than just feeling laggy lower down.

Best thing you can do though is scan the car on vag-com bud.

Stage 3 isn't happening for me. You can only get a stage 3 map if you uprate the turbo mate. I love my car but that is just too much money. I've got loads to do just to get it to where I'd be happy with it. Stage 2 at where I want it, then it'll probably be time to change car!

This is the planned work for the car as and when time/funds allow:

Replace the fans.
Front and rear ARBs.
Full polybush kit. My wishbone one's are shot and I've only uprated the dogbone mount so far with a Powerflex one.
Complete brake overhaul - new discs and pads allround, replace fluid.
Front & rear strut braces.
New tyres. Not sure what though.
Maybe a change of FMIC.

Oh and my insurance is due in March, plus a lads holiday so this will delay it further :(

Most of it is handling mods now. I'm really happy with the power but want the car to get it down alot better than it currently does so it's a proper weapon then.

Want it done for summer really, but I've got holidays and stuff to pay for so not sure I can go on a mad spend up again anytime soon....

Can't wait to have all the above done though, I'm sure it'll feel so much better and in my eyes near enough finished as a project.

Yeh, loads of grunt gone from low end and general acceleration is slower. Feels a lot less torquey too apart from at motor way speeds. Will get it scanned when I service it, assuming they have the correct tools and they don't charge a stupid premium. If they do I'll just buy one off ebay and do it myself.

Fair enough, still plenty on the list then to keep you busy! Will be an awesome LCR when it's all done - inspiration for my plat grey lcr! Hope to see it at the August meet if you've still got it!

When I fitted my first cone filter to my otherwise standard LCR it felt very boggy low down. I found this to be down to the filter absorbing too much heat and not getting enough cold air. I moved the filter closer to the wing with a spacer and stuck in a much better cold air feed. The results were instantly noticable and the car felt back to normal, then was remap time and the air filter really came into it's own and now...with everything else...it feels insane ;).

I've moved the filter over with the coupler, but a better cold air feed is probably a good idea. Will have a search on here and see how others have done it. At least I know when remapped and with other mods it'll be awesome :D

Tom0311 - also a heatshield would do a great job too in reducing the heatsoak and keeping the whole setup steady which helps.

Harris - thanks mate, and I'll see you in 9 or so hours with your item ;)

Back from AmD

Below copied from AmD RR thread..

Cheers AmD and Darren for today, it was really good despite the cold. Plenty of cars there, lots of bacon rolls/hotdogs - I confess I had 4 in the end

Nice to put some names to faces and have a good discussion with all I did manage to speak to.

Another thanks for D.K for those pictures at the end, looking forward to seeing those!!

For those interested in some figures.. 2 months ago I had my stage 2 map done with the FORGE TIP on, and this was a colder day than today and the car made 283.5bhp and 307.4 lb/ft torque.

And today, my only change to the car was the Badger5 3" TIP and a new FR Jetex cone instead of the FC one. It made 300.5bhp and 330.7 lb/ft torque.

Shaun's comments.... "Your car is running really well, very smooth but strong curve right the way to the line. I'd think about a Quaife LSD next!!!"

Really chuffed with the car and I think like for like comparison on the same rollers, this goes to show the 3" TIP DOES work. I was confident today as it's felt stronger mid-top end since the TIP went on.

Well done
So it can be proven on multiple cars that 300bhp is attainable on standard K04

Thanks mate.
Indeed it can, those claiming it can't probably don't have a 3" TIP and are running Forge/Autobahn/Samco's etc..
It really is pulling like a train but I am focusing mods on chassis and honing the handing in as well as I can within a sensible limit on the car.
If I am keeping this car beyond the end of this year, an LSD will be on the menu for sure.

If you are keeping it a while you may want to think about rods too as 330lb/ft is very high
Have a look on the integrated engineering section (144x20 rods)

Thats great news tom. This has proven the badger 5 tip and the tx intercooler to be great bits of kit. Im very happy for you. My badger 5 tip will arrive next week, now i really cant wait. Well done tom, top man.

The elusive 300 BHP has been reached, without a hybrid turbo too :)

I'll have to see about getting a 3" TIP for mine, at 288 BHP its getting close to the 300 magical figure.
Have you got any logs before the 3" TIP was fitted with stage 2 map?

Indeed Ronin. Thanks for the advice. I think I'll get them done this year, maybe before ARBs etc. I might have to look into this alot more than I thought. As much as I don't rag the car to full potential every 5 minutes, it is so so tempting on the right road now!! :p

Awesome results mate, especially the torque that's impressive!

Thanks Bud.
Makes all the investment, time and effort worth it!!

Still a long way to go though. I want the car to be handling like it's on rails by the end of the summer is out. Looking forward to this part for sure!!

i highly recommend fitting an LSD, especially with your power

it was bad enough trying to get the power down in mine before i got mine fitted and i am not far off 50bhp down on your figures lol

Haha, I don't have too much trouble getting the power down, which seems to shock people when I tell them. I have the Powerflex dogbone mount, which has settled in very well. And I recommend this to anyone without it! Makes such a difference. Pretty much eliminated wheelhop for me. Also have quite grippy Bridgestone front tyres. Might help.

However, a diff is going to be on the menu at some point I'm starting to think more and more.

Yes get one. Can't recommend it enough. Hopefully I'll get vagcom logs of airflow this week for all to see......

Cheers Sam :D

I think your car is crying out for one. It should certainly free up some mid-top end torque on yours for sure! As I've mentioned above, I'm hoping to do some logs this week to show everyone.

Hope your TIP comes nice and early and it improves your car like it did mine.

:D

How does the car feel as apose to pre bill tip?

:)

Feels stronger mid to top end mate. Just keeps pulling rather than tailing off with the Forge TIP. You have to keep feeding that turbo some good air ;)

Still, 283bhp with the Forge TIP is still alright and only if you want that bit more would I recommend changing for Badger5 like I did..

288bhp is awesome without one mate. I think you'll hit it personally. Have read your reader's ride and your LCR is an inspiration for all to see.

I'm using your thread in the near future to get the handling on mine wired!! Yours sounds like a scalextric car!

My friend has done logs using his vag-com pre 3" TIP, so I will ask him if they are saved somewhere as I don't have them myself. But we've done a few runs before when logging the fmic temp reductions after fitting.
