I dont mind my OEM one, I think the stubby aerials are to short for a car the size of ours. Something inbetween size wise would probably look and sound good. I'm sure I've seen somewhere the civic has a shorter aerial then ours that fits but isnt to short. Not sure what the receptions like though, might be worth a shout.

Indeed you are correct and have just jogged my mind! It's the EP3 Civic Type R aerial that is shorter than the OEM LCR one but longer than the Citroen C3 stubby job.

I will do some research into it 1st before buying a CTR one, but good call mate, I had completely forgotten about those one's!

Its something I was considering a while ago but never got round to sorting it out. Let me know how your research goes.

I will do mate, unless you beat me to it and get one ;)

It's a terrible song  What head unit you got?

Haha, fair enough. It doesn't pain my ears too much and was the 'subject' song with my oem aerial going back on vs C3 stubby..

I've got a Sony CDX-GT45IP. Has rear iPod control and red illumination, my main 2 concerns when buying one. Not the priciest but I don't need to spend more and for the money you can get very good sound out of it using the standard speakers.

I run my iPod 80GB classic into the glovebox, well the smaller cubby hole in the glovebox. Just drilled a gromet in the back and run the cable into there. Can't complain, I have just under 10,000 songs on the go so rarely ever have a CD in the car, lol.

I did want an Alpine or Pioneer but at the time there wasn't many red illuminated one's with rear ipod control out in my budget. I literally bought the car and went straight to a local car audio specialist and got the rubbish standard one ripped out. I like my music in the car :)

exactly what i did mate, got an alpine stereo with rear ipod connector and ran it to the glovebox. Its not red illuminated but that doesnt bother me. In future i may change it but my disc changer didnt work so had to get an aftermarket unit in there. Must say im very impressed with the oem speakers too.

Hey mate I've read you thread with great interrest and your cars kind of going in the direction i'd like mine to be. Just to add to your latest bits tho it looks very good without the badges, I'm going to get rid of the LEON but had a question mark over the sides until I saw yours done..... so that's a little job for the weekend! BTW have you seen these and what do you think of them? I like the colour match but on the fence?

Alpine's are good mate. Which one did you get? Red illumination was a key for me but it's not a make or break thing about a car, main thing is to have the head unit which has the best features for you. And for both of us rear ipod out was the one! Glad you've done it aswell.

The oem speakers do take some punishment I must admit. If they ever go I will uprate them but for now no sign of it (touch wood :) )

Hey fraggles,

Thanks for the comments! I must say I completely agree with the car not having the L E O N lettering on the back now and looking ten times better! Really smoothens it off. Side badges I was more worried about as I thought the sides looked ok to be honest.. But once they we're off I was well chuffed :) The lines on the car and the overall shape really are helped by ditching these badges. Has to be done!

The badges in your link are ok bud, but not for me. I personally think badges like that could be a bit tacky? I am getting a like for like replacement 'R' badge for the boot on Friday.. See update below :)

Few bits ordered! Nothing amazing though.. ;)

Small update:

Right so this morning I took a trip upto W.J King SEAT Sidcup. I ordered the following replacement oem bits

-'R' badge on the boot. Old one is perished...
-2 new engine cover screws. One is missing and one is barely doing it's job.
-Rear towbar cover, straight replacement part. This is the bit on the right of the rear diffuser and mine has snapped on one side and not hanging flush with the diffuser, so is being replaced.

I also had a chat with a bodyshop guy in there about my 'slightly unhinged' spoiler, and on Friday when I pick up the above parts, I'll be booking it in to have the spoiler sorted out. He said it shouldn't take too long, possibly just an hour's labour. The guy could tell straight away that someone has tried to have it off with a screwdriver etc :censored: but said they would be able to sort it out.

I'd rather a bodyshop which is guaranteed for the work sort this out, as I am likely to do more bad than good if I take the spoiler off..

All of the parts ordered in will be fitted Friday/Saturday ready for the AmD rolling road day on Sunday.

Yeah those badges may look tacky in the flesh I guess and you run the risk of people thinking you've just badged up a standard leon.... not the look I'm going for..... I'll ponder on this some more.......... I have a couple of other ideas....

On the head unit note, mine came with the Alpine CDA-9853R - has the red lights and I brought the KCA-420i iPod unit on top and run my iPod touch with it. Apart from the interface revolving around playlists it's fantastic, really great sound really kicks and I have no need for a sub on top only upgrade I might make in time is larger amp'd speakers but I don't need them in truth.... I already ditched the sub to save weight cos I could hardly hear it!

good news on getting your parts and spoiler sorted!

Let me know what you do badge wise... Some have gone for MK2 C U P R A badging or the new MK2 Cupra R badge in silver. DK on here has this badge on the boot of his MK1. Suits his silver one well, but wouldn't work on mine I don't think. Quite like the standard mk1 LCR R badge being red it goes well with small touches as the brembo's on the exterior. Then all my hoses are red in the engine bay too so looking to keep touches of the theme carrying on throughout the car if possible. And of course the LCR interior is very black and red with the stitching etc.

Nice head unit that matey, bet it does sound sweet. This is the one right?

Totally agree with you on the sub front.. I know the car has a big old boot for one but I really don't want anymore bass than I can currently get out of the oem speakers. So impressed by them and the pounding they take. If they ever go I will uprate them, but they'll have to be a decent set really like Infinity's, VIBE's or JBL's etc..

Thanks for the comment. I like getting the small things done on the car, sadly sometimes more than the bigger parts! Weird I know, but I bought an honestly owned car just needing some stage 2 love, but also some bits refurbed and maintained better. Finally getting round to doing alot of these bits now :)

Yep that's the one, very impressed with it I've had Kenwood installs before big and small never used Alpine tho but makes a difference it's good quality too.

You gotta get the details nailed mate, devil's in the details!

I had a Kenwood unit on my last LCR, was a great bit of kit considering how entry level it was meant to be. Sounded nearly as good as the Sony I have now :)

I will try Alpine on my next car for sure as I've only heard good things about the quality of the sound from them.

Exactly, all the details have to be nailed! I can't wait to go pick up all my ordered parts tomorrow from the stealer. Small bits, but excited to get them on lol.

Picked up these parts about half hour ago. Think I'll whack it all on today while I'm in the mood!

Also booked the car in for next Wednesday to have the spoiler sorted out :)

Hi Tom,

Your car is looking very nice!. Not too envious of your performance mods and RR figures... Congrats. I hope the car is settling down nicely? I should imagine it's a completely different car to drive now?

With regards to aerials, I've tried a couple over the years. The C2/C3 aerial, I found to perform rather poorly with regards to reception, but looked very discreat. The best one I've found, and it's been on my car for a couple of years now, is the Honda S2000 aerial. I'm not sure if it is the same as the Type R aerial? It's not too short, looks very OEM, is a direct fit, and the reception is not at all comprimised. If you want me to take a pic for your reference, just let me know; it's pictured in my thread fitted to the car. Hope this helps Tom?

James :)

No mate, just having mine sorted out. It's not flush on one side where someone has tried to have it off. It needs to be re-headted and glued down as it's partly lost it's shape on the very left hand side.. Should be all good by Weds lunchtime :)

Hi James,

Thanks for the comments! She certainly pulls well.. ;) And those figures we're made without the 3" Badger5 TIP, so I'm keen to see if I've got some extra gain from that.. It certainly feels like it pulls harder top end now with the 3" TIP :)
The map has settled and I've adapted to how it's delivered and when to give it the beans and when not too.... Believe me it can lose traction quite easily, but when you get it down sweet the surge is incredible, really lunges you forward and pulls like a train :D Then again it does have nearly 100 lb/ft more of torque to before it was mapped :cartman:

Nice one on the aerial suggestion, always open to more options! I just thought it was the CTR aerial only which fit, never knew about the S2000 one.. Please could you post a couple of pictures in here? I'll have a quick look at your thread, but if you have anymore not on there, I'd be very keen to see them! Does it look nicer than the oem LCR one then?

Cheers, Tom
