Hmm, a bit p***ed off at the moment so need to have a rant :cry:

Had my Cordy MOT'd on Wednesday, and after a few minor things (wishbone bush, numberplate bulb, headlight aim) she passed - yippee (good job I removed the Morettes - but that's another story/post).

Anyway was putting the paperwork away today and noticed that the MOT said 'Seat Ibiza' and not 'Seat Cordoba'. So checked the VIN numbers and discovered that the VIN number didn't match that of the Cordoba - the VIN number on the new MOT was that of my 8v Ibiza that I scrapped last month!

Been back to the garage who basically said they had worked off the reg number of the Cordy. This has a personalised plate, which, you might have guessed, used to be on the Ibiza. And the garage had previously MOT'd the Ibiza - no prizes for working out where this is going....

So somehow the garage has MOT'd the Cordy, but issued an MOT with the VIN and model of the Ibiza on it. Even the fact that the Ibiza was white and the Cordy is black didn't seem to make them wonder... In their defence, there are no badges on the Cordy, but still??

So I've got to send all the paperwork I have for both Ibiza and Cordy off to my local VOSA station to ask/beg that they alter the MOT. If I'm lucky, they will re-issue via the post; if I'm not, they will call me in and re-test the Cordy completely.

Existing Cordy MOT runs out today so technically if I get stopped by the police from tomorrow onwards I'm driving without an MOT. That would normally be ok as I could use the S3 whilst this was sorted, but unfortunately the S3 has a split power steering pipe so is peeing PAS fluid all over the place. The part is on order and I can't get it fixed until 6th June.

Grrr.

most MOT testers now are reluctant to change / admit they were wrong etc because they have to log-in to admit mistake to DOT / VOSA or whoever now runs it, no more writing out new tickets by hand, presumably some sort of 'naughty boy' scheme is in place?

I agree that computerisation has removed some of the leeway, but I was hoping for a more sympathetic ear from the MOT station. Well it's in the hands of VOSA now - if the MOT station get put on the naughty step as a result that's their lookout, they had an opportunity to put right their mistake.

Surely one of the first things in the MOT book is to make sure the car you are testing is what you think it is which involves checking the VIN.

usually, you enter the reg and the last 6 digits of the VIN or chassis number to confirm..
then your car will pop up with details and you read it, I.E seat ibiza, black, 1.4.. ect.. maybe they just continued without even bothering to read anything :O

Yep mate, how it works, if you type in wrong info, you get warnings (or points, can't remember now, been a while, my uncle is a retired MOT tester).
If you get too many you get VOSA on your tail.

Yep, I used to help my uncle sometimes, and some the people there did exactly that, not check, just type in and carry on. My uncle made me make sure I was quadruple checking everything!

Jason, I would go to the garage and make them redo it if I was you. It's their mistake, they need to cope with the consequences!

It's too late - all the paperwork went off to VOSA recorded delivery yesterday afternoon.

Even as they typed in the REG and the 6 vin digits they will have seen white seat ibiza on the system; the fact the cordy is black should have at least meant they double checked they were right but....

Oh ok, well yep VOSA will be giving them a good grilling now.

TBH how many times have they not checked, or could be the only time, but now VOSA will check alot of their past ones to see if there is a trend.

yeah they should of put reg and last 6 of vin in the system i dont see how they could even possibly of done that, hopefully they will sort it asap and get you back on the road!

but at least you now know that the Ibiza is road worthy for 12 months...or at least the parts of it that still exist are :D

Well I haven't had anything back from VOSA yet.

On the plus side, it doesn't seem to be throwing anything up with the police as I've passed a couple of patrol cars without the blues'n'twos being used.

Hmm, not too sure I'll get too far with a set of front & rear lights and a wiper motor :D

All sorted - VOSA reissued my MOT with all the correct details on it on the basis of the letter I'd sent them.

So no need for them to MOT the car again - phew!
