I was driving a couple of weeks ago and the clutch pedal just went straight to the floor so I assumed it was the common clutch pedal failure, towed the car to office car park and went off to glastonbury for the weekend :)

So just had a look and the pedal itself is fine (although stays at the bottom when pressed in as there's no pressure to push it back)... when you pull it back up and push it back in on the engine bay you can hear a hissing noise and see that fluid is leaking from somewhere although cannot see exactly where.

Anyone have any incline as to what this could be?

Thanks.

is the fluid coming from within the bell housing on gearbox?? sounds like a clutch slave cylinder if so, just hope thats its not concentric :) but more than likely it is, so gearbox out :)

There's no noticeable oily leek around the bell housing... The leak is coming from the top left of the engine bay (behind the heatshield) where all the pipes are; sounds like it could be a master cylinder failure, but then I've looked through more posts with a similar fault and the common failure seems moreso the slave cylinder (expensive!)

I'm going to take it to a German car specialist when I return from holiday on 16th July and see what he says... Hopefully won't be tooo expensive, only just recovered from the £700 MOT repair bill in April!

So finally (after 6 weeks sitting in the work car park) I took my car to the garage on Friday; they rang me this morning to confirm my suspicions that the master cylinder has split and leaking fluid...

I've heard its a pig of a job on the LCR with all the extra piping in the way; hoping its going to be around the £250 mark!

id get them to double check the bell housing when working on it. i had the problem with the slave and at first they said it was the master until they got it all out.
i spent alot of money that week

Master cylinder was replaced, they checked the whole system like you said (Zico). Was very happy with the price too, they charged me £100 labour, total bill was £189.60
