Hi all,

I wondered if you have this ticking noise, sounds like a bee in a tin can - from engine bay, is it the injection system on the CR engine?

Smiffy

it's a bomb run !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think all or most cars sometimes have a ticking sound usually when they are warming up or cooling down if your really concerned pop it into the dealer and ask a techie

Done that, they say its the solonoid (round pot at the front of the engine four pipes going into it)

Seat in one location said it was belts rubbing - book it in - took it to another dealer who said its normal - took it to VW who say its normal for the CR engine.

round pot at the front isn't that the carbon canister thing?
does it do it hot/cold?
I could go start my FR and have a listen

all sorts of kit powers down on modern engines when you switch off... my work C5 plays a tune especially if the xenons have been on... after about 15 seconds of taking the key out all the instruments try to drive opposite way at the same tiome as it sounds like a dwarf is practising welding behind the dash... normal apparently, all our fleet do it!:):)

Its a constant ticking/clicking noise, on tick over its fine but as the revs build it ticks more - its not nice and its not the turbo/diesel side of the engine.

front left of engine bay - with four right angle metal pipes going into it. swirl pot type thing..

You'll know the noise as its quite prominent.

sorry mate thought you meant as you turned it off...

Its not nice - bit embarrassing to be honest. Windows up, AC on - Music loud...

had a listen to mine cannot really hear a ticking even under revving
5miffy your car is new I believe mines 8 months old now with 6k on the clock may be to do with new engine bedding in (just a guess) same with Wedgie 27 yours new? and the demo would have been too

Mine does the same as yours (cr aswell) never bothered to get it checked as i dont hear it when the music/windows are on/up.

Mine also makes a ticking noise. Initially I thought it might have been a blowing exhaust so took it to some local mechanics to have a look and listen. They thought it was something to do with a solenoid rather than exhaust so advised me to take it back to the Seat dealer.

According to them it's normal and nothing is wrong. I'm not convinced as it only started about 2000 miles ago (car has done just under 7K now). Will be taking it to another dealer when it's first service is due so will get them to also check and sort it out.

Hmm I'm not convinced either, its an awful noise. But to be honest I waited so long for the car (only 7 weeks from order but that was long enough) I got it on 30 miles and its done 2040 in less than two weeks. I don't want to be without it driving around in a 1.2 courtesy Ibiza pile of junk, well thats what they have near me....

The plus-side is there doesn't appear to be any other symptoms that go with it, such as stuttering or loss of power etc. Will see what the other dealer makes of it and go from there.

Cool, let us know - I'll do the same and compare. I'm unsure about the power, mine sometimes shifts and others doesn't but that might be to the fact that it isn't very old.

Will do. Only time I notice any sort of power-loss is if the DPF is regenerating. Luckily it's only happened a couple of times and is accompanied by the idle tickover going up to 1000rpm. Quick blast up and down the A35 road nearby soon sorts that out though. :)

Hi
you can be 100% assured it is normal,All 170CR do it,it is the high pressure fuel pump solenoid,It is mainly noticible with the window open when driving
cheers

Good to know. Thanks. At least the local mechanics identified it as being a solenoid which bolsters my faith in them even more. :)
