Hi folks,

I'm looking to have a stainless exhaust fitted to the V5.[B)]

Basically I'm torn between a single discreet exit or the TT option I've seen a few guys on here go for and this sort of thing from this youtube video(search for Golf 4 IV 2,3 V5 exhaust + its the 1st 2 that come up.)

The main stipulation I have is I do NOT want it to sound like a chavtastic Corsa or Civic...all I want is a wee amplified V5 grumble-nice and grunty with the boot in and quiet(ish) with no resonation between 50 + 80mph :p

Can I have your opinions and suggestions please??

Also, does anyone know of any decent exhaust manufacturers in or around Glasgow?

Cheers

Dave

Bear in mind that you will have to have the bumper modified to accept your aftermarket pipes.. As the standard fit doesn't protrude through the bumper.

Personally I was going to go for a Powerflow option, done to my spec. The tailpipe would be the same as now, IE I'd have it pointing straight down as opposed to having to cut the bumper. Alternatively I would buy the bits and weld a bespoke one together.

I can guarantee it will never sound like a Corsa or Civic, the V5 has quite a distinct soundtrack. But if you keep it with two boxes rather than removing one you should keep things down to a decent rumble.

My Toledo has exactly this and sounds just right, not droning just loud when the boot it! Plus its nice and subtle looking

The previous owner of my car had it done for £260 and comes with a lifetime guarantee too.

For details check out the readers ride thread:

The car looks great...really like the silver and black theme :coolthumb

Do you have any other pics of the system and maybe even a cheeky sound clip?? ;)

Thanks for the advice, have found a couple of fabricators locally who have given prices from £290-£390 depending on what I want, will probably be going for a nice hidden system...shame there isn't much else you can do to beef up the rear end of the toly though!

1st up its a service, refurb of the rims thanks to the s:censored:t state of the roads up here then get the body tidied up a bit-some we scumbag decided to give me a 'ghost line' down the drivers door  + the colour coding of the bottom on the rear bumper has started to peel off at the towing eye cover.

Then I may be able to get the system fitted!! :-D

I don't have any other pics but its just got a single down turned pipe, would have perhaps sounded better with twin pipes like the original exhaust but I've never had a standard one so can't compare! And no sound clips I'm afraid, but the enclosed induction kit I've got gives a throaty sound too coupled with the exhaust!

Hopefully I'll get the Tolly sounding like this soon!

Well I'm definitely going down the hidden route, probably with twin pipes.:p

No worried RE the pics or sound clips mate!:)

Christ my shopping list is growing daily! haha

To be done this...MONTH!:D
Wheel Refurb( only one for now as its quite bad!)
Service(tomorrow)
LED side + plate lights
pressed plates
Probably get paintwork tidied up
Possibly the exhaust at the same time as the paintwork since the guys at www.simonsexhausts.co.uk and harknessbodywork.co.uk are the same building!

For the next few months/years...
Tint the windows
get the rest of the wheels refurbed
new iPhone freindly head unit
Maybe lower it on Coilies
Definitely an induction kit, not sure what type yet so advice would be appreciated!

So much for me doing nothing to the car! haha

Led numberplate and side lights I have done, best bulbs to get are the SMD white led bulbs with 4 chips on, they look awesome

I had to take my sidelight bulbs out, they were nowhere near as bright as the filament bulbs and one started flickering. :(

Well after the service on Friday I've been informed I will need to replace the Cat :(

Has anyone fitted a decat to their v5? I'm only considering this as I'm obviously changing the exhaust anyways!

Cheers

Not that I can remember, most exhausts I've seen on here have been cat back? Although I would like to hear whether anyone has actually done it.

Don't forget the V5 has pre and post cat lambda sensors, so it's likely at least one will need mapping out or something done with it. And it may cause issues at MOT time. You might find a race cat easier to deal with?

The lambda sensors are the main source of doubt for me having a de-cat fitted. I'm going to have a dig around the net and see what the chat is on a race cat or I may just have a standard one fitted.
