Hi All

I've had a problem with my Ibiza since April where getting it into 1st gear and the gear change between 1st and 2nd is really tough.
Another symptom that developed last week was when in reverse gear, you could hear something spinning down (presumably in the gearbox) after reversing and putting the clutch in. :headhurt:

I've reset the linkages a couple of times and it made no difference and it has been getting worse so I took it to a VAG specialist in my area last week and got him to take a look at it.
First diagnosis was that it was the selector turret that needed replacing so this was duly ordered and fitted but as of this morning the garage have phoned and told me that this hasn't solved the problem and that a gearbox strip down is needed to find the problem.

Has anyone here ever had similar problems? (It's a 2005 ATD engined 1.9tdi)

Cheers

If its is the gearbox, I have a 6 speed box from a fabia vRS TDI I'm selling if that helps you out at all.

Cheers. Hopefully it won't be that severe but I'll bear that in mind. I've no idea whether a 5 speed can be swapped easily with a 6 speed but I imagine it can't be too difficult. What engine code was the vRS?

ASZ. It will go but I believe you will need a different clutch, DMF and some other bits. Still its here if thats your only option :)

(Well the gearbox is actually at unit 18 in milton kynes)

Sounds like the syncro's are worn, had my gearbox in my pd130 stripped for the same reason. Does it get better as the engine warms? What mileage has it done?

I thought that might be a possibility. I've not personally noticed a change as it gets warmer but its possible.
It's done 69000...

That's low miles, but I guess it depends on what kind of life the car has had. Sounds to me like a strip down will probably be needed though :(

Ok... So it was stripped down and inspected and it's not good :-(

Basically first and second gear are heavily damaged apparently, as is reverse. The gears themselves are chipped badly and the synchro is also knackered.
The parts shopping list is pretty extensive and comes to just short of £1K!
OUCH.

Very much OUCH!!! £1K is it worth that, you can pick up a recon or good second hand box for probably half that. Who's quoted that?
