Hi all

So if I go to this website mytyres.co.uk I can get 15" steel wheels and winter tyres as one package!

My question is. I have ordered a 1.6 TDI Sportrider with 17" rims. Is my car a 6J 77KW or 66KW or does it make no difference? I have checked with a visual tyre size calculator and if I go for 185/60/R15 there is no difference in speed :p The next question is will it clear the brakes?

I hope that makes sense, Thanks in advance

J

Yours will be 77kw (105PS), they don't sell the 66kw (90PS) version in the UK. Whats the price for a set of steel wheels and winter tyres just out of interest?

Thanks for the reply

For these "Vredestein SNOWTRAC 3 185/60 R15 88T M+S marking" £106 per wheel, for these "Vredestein SNOWTRAC 3 185/60 R15 88T M+S" marking £108 per wheel.

The lowest price was £85 per wheel. Where I was looking at £144 just for the tyre at the 215 40 R17 size

Thanks J

You will probably find the spare wheel in your car will be a 15 inch steel wheel anyway, so you should have no problem with the winter tyre package.

Have you thought about buying a second hand set of alloys in 15 inch and getting winter tyres for them, it may work out a bit cheaper. I have done just that and it has worked out at £95 per wheel. I am fitting 195/60 R15 Kumho KW23's, I could have gone for cheaper tyres but these came highly recommended and get good reviews.
There is a little bit more work in sourcing your own alloys but you may be able to make a significant saving.

To be honest I'm spending too long looking at wheels and tyres it's starting to drive me loopy

If I do manage to find a set off ebay etc, I then have to either go and get them or have them delivered at high cost, then I have got to go and find somebody to fit the tyres.

Where as

mytyres.co.uk do alloys as well, so I could get "4 new alloys 4 Dunlop SP winter response" Fitted and delivered for £588 (That being the dearest) Or 4 steel wheels with Nokian WR G2 for £458. (Then just put some alloy looking covers over them

I still have a bit of time to decide, so I'll probably change my mind again by time I get the car

Thanks for the help though
