Hi,

My 2 month old Ibiza 1.6 DSG sport has developed a starting problem. When trying to start it all that happens is it misfires and one of the relays in the main fuse box 'chatters' loudly in time with the misfiring. The engine is not even running its just shuddering as the starter motor runs. After leaving it for 10 mins it eventually starts, then performs perfectly, until next time it is restarted. The relay in question is the left hand grey one with the number 53 written on it. Any ideas?? Fuel pump relay?

I have left it at the dealers for them to look at tomorrow.

Fingers crossed!!

Ian

Really worried about all the problems people are having with thier 1.6 cr tdi's we are picking up ours in 3 days and traveling down to leeds to get it, hope we are'nt as unfortunate :(

Hope you get it sorted soon mate.

Typical!!!!! Left the car with the dealer today and they can't make the problem happen!!

The last thing I did when it was having problems starting before I took it to the dealer was to 'wiggle' the left hand of the two grey relays in the fuse box with the number 53 written on it. Thats the one that chatters when the car is having trouble starting.

Good news!!

Eventually the fault showed up, at the dealers and they diagnosed that the engine management software had got out of time with what the engine was doing and have not reprogrammed it. Anyone heard of this happening?

Ian

^^^^^sounds fishy to me, I would get that relay replaced. They just pull out and push in.

You say there are 2 grey relays, maybe swap them over if it stars diong it again.

Its done it again!!

Oh dear. My cars engine fault has shown up again. Today I parked the car for an hour, and came back to start it and it was really lumpy starting. When it did start every single dashboard light stayed on (epc, tyre pressure, airbag, etc) and i could not rev it beyond 2000 rpm, and it idled very roughly at 1000 rpm. I assume this was an emergency programme to get you home? I stopped the engine, re started it, and it sounded ok, but all the lights were still on. I pulled away and all the lights went out and back to normal. It drives fine and have just stopped and started it 5 times with no problems. I will get it back to the dealer tomorrow. I am thinking its a sensor (crankshaft position etc) or the Engine Management Unit is faulty. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllpp

Ian

well m8 whats the dealer saying about all your problems your having with the car

They found nothing wrong!!! They said they disconnected and re connected all the connectors they could find, to try to eliminate a bad joint. No problems since, but I dont have any confidence in the car :(

Ian

If I was you I would insist on the 2 grey relays being replaced, What can they say, they don't actually know what it is themselves do they?

Hey. My car has shown up the engine management fault once this week. I stopped the engine restarted and it was fine. Do I take it to the dealers this week, or wait and see what happens?
