Hi all,

i have a extremely annoying low down hesitation on my '03 cupra!

it's worse (really bad) when cold, an clears at full throttle and anything about 2.5k revs. Sometimes when cold at first start up i kangaroo around until i boot it and rev out.

once warm, it isn't so obvious, but still happends.

After searching i can see its not a uncommon problem, although i haven't seen a straight answer. I'm feeling it's either a MAF, n75, d/v or coilpack issue. Now i'd like to rule out all the above, but wouldn't mind some advice before i start messing around or spend out(only had the car a week).

can anyone help or shed some light on this, it's doing my head in and putting me off modding the car or spending money on it till it's sorted!

cheers

Hi mate- I have had my 03 LCR 2 months and I also have this issue!!! I am going to service the car and put new plugs in to see if that helps! I have been told to look at correction factors via vagcom which I believe will highlight any timing issues due to boost leaks etc...I have done a scan with vagcom but have no fault codes to report??!!?? I am as eager to resolve this as you are

i serviced the car fully last weekend

plugs, oil/air/fuel filters, oil and it's still the same

i might grab the snap on scanner from work tomorrow and see if it shows any faults, there is now eml on

Where abouts are you? putting it on Vag-com may shed some light on the problem, it may be a coil pack or the maf, to check if its the maf unplug it and go for a drive, if it drives better then that's the issue, if not then look else where but vag-com should be your step, there should be someone close to you that will help.

im in Swindon Phil

i've noticed vag-com being thrown around alot. Is it cheap and easy to use?

i'll try the unplugging MAF trick too

You can get the lite version for $99 and that will do all you need, but should you wish to get the "Full" version its $249 but if you already have the lite, Ross Tech will knock the $99 of you paid.

sorry, newbie question. Whats the difference?

i dont fancy paying out much, i'd hope my works scanner could pick up any issues

Hi phil I have exactly the same symptoms and have scanned with vcds lite but it does not show any codes? What blocks need to be measured for cf's? And the MAF?

Im having the same problem on my 03 cupra

Had a coilpack go last week, when it went the car went into limp mode and ECL light on so u shud know if its a coilpack..

Vag-come throws up this error tho;
17840 - Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve (N112): Open Circuit

Dont really know what that is but people have sugested checking all hoses n pipes for splits etc.

This problem has only happened since i replaced a split vacum hose??

Of the top of my head i think 020 is for the Cf's. You cant realy log for a faulty Maf other than looking at the air flow, which may not show up the fault.

The N112 is on the small panel under the trim in front of the inlet manifold, i think the open circuit means you have an issue with an earth or a blown fuse i can never remember which. (sorry)

hmmm, lots of simular symptons from other people. But no solid cause or a straight fix (

Ah cheers So its a componant on that panel then.
That would make sense ive hadthat panel on & off twice this week to replace a hose behind there and had the problem since.
Do you know where the fusefor this is by any chance?
Cheers

So... I logged my MAF this morning via the liquid gauge (I know its not 100% but its a fair assumption) so I red lined it in 4th gear and my peak was 169g/s!!! now even I know that is not right and the car does feel like boost trails off at about 4500 rpm ish... so I guess I need to unplug the MAf and see what happens? or could anything else cause this low reading which would explain my other symptoms?

im another with these symptoms on a 00 180 cupra i will be trying the maf unpluggining at dinner... But in the year ive owned it ive put on geuine coils x4,plugs, maf, temp sensor, n75 valve, would either of these fail that quick?

I have read about people getting dud mafs, another thing to check is the wiring to the coils this is prone to the plastic cracking revealing the wire inside which can result in electrical issues with the coils, mine was really bad so i bought the replacement loom from Awesome GTi (£30ish) its not straight forward to fit but if you are ok with mechanical things its not to much of a problem, you just need to remove the old part, which includes some other plugs, but you do need the little tool to remove individual wiring pins from the plugs, if you do decide to do this make sure you get the kit with the sump level sensor, the kit for the MK4 golf is the same as the Leon except it does not have the sump sensor.

Well ive sorted mine out, the plug for the N112 or whatever it was was unplugged :)

Love itwhen things are simple.

unplugged my maf made a tiny bit of difference but watching it running on vag com the lambda was showing 0.00 this cant be right can it? even with no cat...
