Loba 4xx Hybrid turbo

WMI is a different deal though - this turbo could be used in addition to WMI ;)

That's what I'm thinking, but on the Golf R. While Revo & Loba are working on a map to get the traction down, I think I'd want AWD.

450 is easily achievable with WMI and the Loba. I mean WMI can just be used to keep things clean and cooler rather than tuning specially for it, but switchable maps like GIAC & APR would also make running Pump and Race files (utilising WMI for gains) possible.

I think the head on these engines would perhaps need doing. Head bolts also. If you're gonna spend £3k on the turbo, injectors? and a specific map (after already spending up to £5k getting to Stage 2+ with handling mods) to run almost 2x the original output, then strengthening internals has to be a consideration when budgeting.

Would I run 400hp with this turbo on a stock motor? yes well id do the ARP bolts and thats it.

At 400hp it would be a nice drive, with the turbo not being stressed at all. However you would be nowhere near the turbos potential.

I cant wait to see the power curves of this turbo tbh.

Rods and pistons, 1k
Headbolts 250
Labour, 600-800?
Injectors 300
intank pump 260

so about 2.5k to run turbo at its full potential of way over 400hp

Cost of the Turbo etc too matey but yea still pretty good ;) - Turbo swapping wasn't too hard providing you had tools... not sure If I want to tackle doing the Rod's & Piston's though...

450hp on a BWJ, no need to do the rods and pistons, just dont get silly with the torque.
The BWA pistons are good for over 500, and the BWJ pistons are better.
The BWA rods are cast and good for 390, and the BWJ's are forged and good for way more.

BWJ

Facelift Cupra and Cupra R engine is CDL

Cheers Al. In this case I will watch this closely. The cost of a new turbo I can justify. But not full engine rebuild, so if the pistons and rods are good for 450 then I would be every interested

Out of interest, hypothetically, if you were to go for one of these turbos and you wanted to make the engine suitable to take it and remain safe and reliable too, which engine mods would you lot consider as "necessary" and which mods as "ideal"?

Spoke to a few tuners now and ARP headstuds are a must and just dont go mental with the torque, As long as the map is good and your not pulling mental timing pull your not going to melt anything. This engine with the ARP studs can handle 450lbfts. Ive never herd of a ko4 engine throwing a rod, ever.

Having an injector fail or a seal on a hpfp is just unlucky. Look after the engine ie wait till its warmed up and give it 2 oil changes a year you'll be fine.

I am going to fit the ARP headstuds very soon even if i stay at stage 2+. If you look closely around where the headgasket is nearly all these engine on 2+ leak a little bit due to the standard oe studs stretching the more so the more miles you've done.

ARP studs, new headgasket and a loba organic clutch kit are going on mine next month. The studs are just for piece of mind.... simples and there not expensive!

Not yet but the studs are £186inc vat and the headgasket is less than £100 so even if it takes 4 hours its still less than £500 and your engine is alot stronger.

The bolts are 1000% stronger than oem ones

When steve gets me a price for the clutch ill ask him if its a big job and ill let you know.

I would be happy with 450bhp and 400lbs never mind 450lbs. Clutch is already in and good enough to take the abuse, head studs would be the only other thing i need :)

Ah water methanol too. Wonder if that was used on that run? Also interesting they used a GIAC file as they had another one ready to go too.
