well i have connected it all, and taped the wires (just a quick fix really until i know it works.
i cant pick anything up now, just static. and whenever i switch the radio on it comes up ATT on the display (i assumed it was for antenna?) but it seems to be coming on in quiet mode, i have a button labelled ATT that i can press when i am talking on the phone and it quietens the radio - have i connected something wrong? faulty or wrong booster?

ill have a tweak, maybe the aerial fell out of the booster when i pushed the stereo back in? or maybe the roof antenna is damaged?

The darker blue wire from the booster does NOT go to the light blue from the head unit, this I believe is for if you have an electric Ariel, it should be connected to the "remote" wire from the head unit, also the standard booster which is in the base of the ariel on the roof can should be connected back up, it's one of the wires coming from the original loom I can't remember what colour it is but ill have a look, if it still works you can get rid of the the aftermarket booster.

ok, thanks i was going to say that i checked all wires and connections and it still was not working, its worse reception and always starts in quiet mode...
which wire is the "remote" wire?
if you can tell me what the standard booster aerial is so i can try to connect that would be great.

little harsh, sorry for the questions.

the headunit is about 8 years old. i dont have any manual, i dont even know the model (probably could look it up)

I used to live in a town so when i installed the unit the radio worked fine. i moved to a village 4 yrs ago and just assumed that it didnt work due to location. its only that i have a young son now so thought i would get radio sorted. im at work, so i prefer to get all the info sorted first then go and plug it together.

i do appreciate your help nd-photo but as you can see i asked if it plugs to the aerial wire and was told yes, that was the only wire labelled and now i have been informed of the correct connection i thought it be best to confirm the colour wire.

It looks like we do all the work for you, thats why my reaction :) Unfortunately its not uncommon on a forum that people create a thread first and (maybe) search later. Anyways,

I only speak from my experience and what worked for me was connecting the booster wire to the switched power cable (red or yellow, cant remember, its been a while).

You're making it harder than it is!

5-10mins work tops

-Car antenna connector > booster antenna input > radio antenna input
-Booster blue wire > radio blue wire or 12v switched (red or yellow)

;)

Also, is the antenna plug fully pushed in the radio?

just an update - received a new stereo for christmas, plugged it all in as advised (and how i did on the previous stereo) and it works perfectly, must have been a old or dodgy radio that was at fault.

many thanks for all the help.

bit of a thread necro but has anyone replaced the stock aerial with a DAB aerial - is it easy to do? i guess you need to remove the headlining for the new wires and stuff?

any particular DAB / FM aerial that you've used and works well?
