So as most of you know, I already have the AutoArt Lighting Projector headlights with the built in LED DRLs.

I am desperate still to get my hands on a set of oem projector headlights which give the sharp cutoff line!!!

Anyone know where the best place is to buy?

Any information is helpful!
Thanks all

Make you own out of your original lights...you know you want to! ;)

hehe i would love to! but time isnt on my side!!!
All i ever do these days is work work work =/

Make me a set and i will pay for parts and labour =]
Heard you got started on your set already?

How are they coming along?
If i got new oem style xenons aswell i think i will be getting some DRL in the vents :p

I understand your frustration, I truly hate the 'kick-up' on my aftermarket head light units as well but I'll have to live with them since my OEM head lights are ruined and the OEM projectors from SEAT are too expensive. You could modify your current aftermarket head lights and adjust the kickup or perhaps even eliminate it completely. I remember someone here posting how to do it and that it is easy, and if I am not mistaken it was Rob.

They are coming along but slowly...I'm also working or spending time with the Thumb and little lad!...he's only 2 and a half and is always wanting me to play diggers and dumpers! I'm also going to take my time so that they look good and not tacky!

Yep, it was me! :D

Maybe i should do this,
Split open my aftermarket headlights.
Shouldnt imagine it would be that hard to do?
How is the projector lens connected to the headlight? doess it just pop off?

Its just the lack of time i have to do these things -.-

Not too hard to do as I suspect the after market ones used the softer sealant so the heat gun/ oven method will be simple. The lenses will just be held on by 4 bolts and the kickup plate is sandwiched between two halves of the projector, also by a couple of bolts/screws. As mentioned before a piece of metal like a coke can will be a good option for the new kickup.

Thanks rob,
I will think about doing it =]

Give it a go...should be easy. I'll take a photo of an old set of headlights I hacked up to show you what the lens should look like inside and also the kickup piece....it's easier than you think!

By the way..here is an update on my lights. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showpost.php?p=4097504&postcount=4654

Mate, your lights look amazing!!!
I think i would prefer without halo rings though, just to look more OEM ^^
And thanks for the pictures when i recieve them.

Oh where did you buy your projectors from? Im not sure if the ones in my link are good quality? And on a scale of 1/10 how hard is the retrofit process since your 3/4 way through it? ^^

I got the projectors from China...took a month to arrive because I'm too tight to pay for express delivery!

As for how hard to do, I'd say 7/10 assuming you have the usual tools to hand and a bit of patience and time. If I had a good run at it I could have them made in a weekend but alas I don't have the pleasure of being single and childless!

Also been looking at this website too!
Apparently these guys are the best?

I wonder how long delivery would take lol.

Rob that looks like a fantastic job, mate. I love how the projector is just sitting there nicely inside the reflector and not 'over-done' like my previous, modified head lights. I have been having a hard time with the kick-up since it's truly annoying on my head lights, much more than the one on cars that come with OEM head lights and HIDs, for instance, and I believe they bother people on the right since that's where they are.

I was wondering if you can dig up the picture of how you eliminate the kick-up? And how do you do that by a coke can?

Yes they are, I've been In contact with the,m and the stuff they have is also from china....it's all made in the same factory so you can bypass one of the middle men by missing TRS. Also, useful help is on HIDPlanet...great website with people doing retrofits.

I'm sure a google search will bring it up or it may have been on HIDPlanet however I will have a look.
Also, it may have helped it I'd put a photo up in the daylight because I haven't used the reflector....went along the route of making a simple bracket which can adjust the beam position. Using the reflector basically pushed the shroud and projector too close to the front lens of the headlight. It all depends on the type of projector you go for due to size etc. here is a photo of it on my work bench to give you an idea of what it will look like.

Yeah! That's so much better, it looks like a perfect fit whereas the reflector does push it and makes it very close to the plastic cover of the head light, and as we all know HIDs and lenses get very hot which is bad for the plastic cover.

Hopefully in a couple of days I'll get my old head light units and open them. I am thinking of doing what you did, since I believe my lens and shroud (at least from the picture above) are exactly the same size but the shroud is painted black on mine, for some reason (the guy thought it would be cool, lol).

What's the best way to re-seal the head light? My friend sealed it using silicone (A LOT of it) but still gets condensation inside from time to time and we made sure everything from the back was in place so I don't know where it is coming from. I am most likely not going to be using it when I am done with it, but at the same time they will sit as a spare in case I unluckily break my current ones in an accident (hopefully not) or something rather than having to buy a whole new set.

What do you think? Is it going to be an easy process remove the reflector itself, cutting through the head light's plastic, and mounting the lens and shroud directly? And does the electric highness adjustment work properly?

Hey Rob, can you take pictures of the back of your head light? I am wondering since you mounted the projector and shroud directly in the head light (without reflector), is the rear of the lens perhaps sticking OUT of the head light unit? Or can you still put the cables and angel eyes' resistors inside and close the plastic cover fine?

Nice work Rob, can you please capture some pictures of the beams cutoff

Looks good mate,
Was that shroud exactly the same size as the reflector which you have put your projector in? If it is thats awsome! because retrofits where you can see the reflector doesnt look that good imo =/

So many questions!!! Lol

Firstly, here is a link to a site where someone has adapted the cutoff. It's a similar principle on all projectors so once you get yours open you will see how they work. http://www.houseofthud.com/cartech/hids/

Tarek, don't use silicone to seal the lights but use butyl rubber sealant. Similar to silicone but the recommended stuff and also what most car manufacturers use.

As for doing your own, once you have the headlight lens off the reflector is held on by 2 small bolts which screw directly into the back of the reflector....very simple to remove. If you have a small projector and shroud then this will sit within the existing reflector once you cut the back of it, however as you have mentioned, my projector (once it has the D2S adapter on the back) sticks out of the back about 10mm. I have therefor cut a hole in the removable plastic cover and mounted a small extension on it. This is fixed with epoxy resin and silicone.
As for the electric adjuster, this works fine as its quite a large part of the headlight which moves, not just the reflector....once you open it up you will see what I mean.

Ahmed, I'll sort this out when I get some time....forgot to take a photo of it last night!

Will, I was originally going to mount the projector and shroud inside the reflector however because of the sizes and that the reflector is slightly oval it just didn't look right. It also made the shroud very close to the headlight lens which I didn't like the look of. If I were to get a different projector which is smaller than the FX-R then the majority of shrouds would fit inside the reflector. I think a Morimoto projector would work but they have a H1 bulb and I wasn't sure if that would cause any issues with the car....I stuck with the FX-R due to it having a H7 bulb.
I've made a very simple bracket to hold the projector and also fix using the original reflector mounting holes. The way I have done it is to make the projector easily adjusted befor finally setting it in place, I.e. up/down, left/right and also turning on an axis so the cut off beams are straight.
To hide the back of the projector and mounting bracket I will use a piece of DVD case heated and curved to the shape of the shroud. It works perfectly (I did a quick trial) and a perfect colour match to the headlight plastic.

Hope this answers your questions!

Appologies for all the questions!!
But thanks for answering :D and if i was to buy, i think it would have to be the Bi-xenon Morimoto Mini Stage III Kit which uses D2S bulbs?

Your making this sound very easy xD The hard bit is to make it look good?
Might be worth a shot if i ever take a long vacation/break from work ^^
