I've just replaced my ARB bushes (£2.40/pair eBay) and it's cured all the knocking and clonking that I've been putting up with for months.

One of the bolts was a bit tricky (nearside, top) because there was not enough room to get a socket on it, as the drive shaft was too close. I borrowed a suitable 13mm ring spanner and that did it, but it took a little longer without the ratchet.

The main reason for the clonking was that the ARB had slid to the left and was hitting the subframe. I have now fitted a jubilee clip next to the offside bush to stop it moving. There was already a flange on the nearside. I used copper grease on the inside of the bushes to reduce the squeaks.

The flanges (look more like rings) should be on both sides, I'm fairly certain the offside flange on yours will have corroded and fell off, just like they did on mine. On mine the nearside one had corroded completely and there was only half of the offside one left.

Try jacking the wheel hub up to compress the suspension slightly which will lift the driveshaft. But don't lift it too much to be taking the weight of the car off the axle stand.

I'm sure this is how I managed to do mine. It was a long time ago like.

When i tried it i couldnt get the drive shaft out of the way at all, i did start to lift the car with the wishbone mount :s and still couldnt retrieve the bolt.
Im not sure if turning the wheel to full lock might help, can only try, I dont think ive ever owned a car that is this badly designed in terms of access to bolts etc, also whilst im on the subject, the a.r.b doesnt need replacing but from the looks of what ive seen do you have to dismantle most of the front of the car to get the poxy thing out???! literally cant see any space to get that out....

It's definitely doable. It's just perseverance and correct tools lol.

I did mine on the driveway and managed it ok, but vaguely remember hinderances ha.

Hope you get it sorted.

Urgh mot failed on damaged anti roll bar (even after trying to hide it with copper grease lol)
i've had a look on here and online trying to find a guide to replacing it, heard a lot of people talking about the need to lower the subframe via the mounting bolts, is there a guide on here that im missing or does anyone know anything different to having to lower the subframe? i really dont want to lower down the subframe just to change a poxy roll bar.... lol can of petrol and a match o'clock i think.
