I bought it from a guy on a forum, £50 included the front cover too.
If I spend some time with it it I can get it to fit as it should.
I was thinking of carbon skimming the oem cover, perfect fit that way :)

Good price including the front, but shame it didn't quite fit as planned though.

If you can do that to the oem one it might be better than tinkering with the ECS which could end up looking a bit bodge

I will attack the ecs first, got nothing to lose, needs to pull forward by around 5-6mm so will bore the hole out a little bigger, the rubber seal on the oil cap may cover this up. If not I could get some alloy trim made up.

Yeah true, give it a go. Do you have an R8 cap on yours or is it the Porsche one I have? Might cover up the gap..

Very impressed with the finish on the ECS. I was nervous when I got it out the packaging earlier, lol :)

Ah same as me more or less.

Yeah it's decent. Pretty happy with the ECS cover!

Need some warmer weather now so weekends I can spend time outdoors messing with the engine bay and enjoy it rather than freeze my arse off :(

Cheers mate. Yeah think I'll have a go this weekend if the weather behaves. Been a shocking last week or so, seems like this winter is never going to end. Very depressing! :ban:

Had the dreaded man flu all week but think fitting new car parts might sort it :)

Yeah I know what you mean mate. I hate moaning about it but when its been a long winter then I have no choice. Yeah tinkering with the car will keep the flu to one side hopefully. Be interesting to see if the cover fits. If it doesn't then awesome should be told!

Hopefully messing with the car will cure any man flu mate :D

I think the cover is going to fit ok going by the trial fit. Awesome GTI have always been good to me so I won't be flipping out if it doesn't fit how I want it. Will just have a word with Al and go from there..

Had a very spirited play with a Clio 182 earlier and left him for dead once the power went down in 3rd and stuck! :D:D:D Real good fun... :p Got a thumbs up when he pulled up next to me at a set of lights but hopefully he now wants an LCR!

The car felt a bit hesitant earlier though like it's not running smoothly and as crisp at it was. I think the service is definitely due now and it will be a full overhaul which I'm hoping will cure it. My suspicion is the spark plugs are close to their life expectancy really being over 2 years old. The startup of the car takes longer and it just feels a bit sluggish to get going.

I'll be getting the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, new NGK Iridium cold rating 7 plugs, 2.0 TFSI coilpacks & adapters all done at the service. This should get her feeling good again. Will probably get it done in the next couple of months as insurance is still to pay in a couple of weeks. Need to replace the rear disks and pads too at the same service. JOY............

EDIT: Tomorrow's plan is to fit some of the bits I got yesterday from Awesome GTI. Looks like I'll be sticking the car in the garage to do it as the forecast is rain all weekend. When will this nightmare winter end.................... :(

Tom, Sam,

I have the R8 oil cap fitted with my ECS engine cover. I used the OEM rubber surround with this; engine cover, rubber surround and the oil cap. No fettling required and looks spot on. I hope you don't mind but I've posted a picture of mine to give you an idea of how it should look.

Feel free to ask anything with regards to fitment. Hope this helps? :)

Be interested to see how it runs with the new plugs and coils and to see if there is any difference, new plugs is next on my list mate. But I may just stick with the oem red coils due to cost! Plus just got my coilovers delivered ;-)

Thanks for the info mate :) Will be trying this with my one. Looks very subtle around the oil cap indeed.

Your bay looks really good!

New plugs should definitely improve things. I have always wanted the TFSI coilpacks since people started to retro fit them to 1.8T's. If you've only just got new coilpacks I wouldn't bother so soon mate. I have had my car over 3 years now and have no receipts of the coilpacks ever being done which means they could be 8 years old, lol.

Good news on the coilovers! Did you go for the AP's?

Tfsi coils do exactly the same as the normal 1.8t ones and they still fail like the old one did altho yours habe lasted 8years or so , never seen the point in doing it they offer no benefits and cost more buying the spacers etc carbon looks good we all love carbon

Lol, regardless of your opinion I'll be getting them mate :p

Been looking on ASN for a while they don't fail as much and give a hotter spark will try it out come service time :)

You need more carbon too :)

There is an alternative to buying the expensive coil pack adapters. Firstly you don't need to use adapters at all. Secondly I saw on a ASN post that VAG have started making adapters to fit the longer TFSI coilpacks to models that would usually use the shorter ones.

This should be up your OEM street plus save a few £'s.

Funnily enough I was reading this thread earlier! But cheers for the link mate :)

Good find from Tuffty.
