I am wanting to do a bit of an upgarde on my brakes. Rather than buying a cupra/s3 345mm set up, I was thinking about fitting braided hoses and using different brake fluid as its obviously gonna be a lot cheaper!!

Can anyone recommend a brake fluid to use and is there any special tools needed to do this?

ATE Super Blue for the fluid and the lines are already braided to a certain extent.

I'd say not as much difference as the S3/Cupra/R32 kit would make, and HERE'S a link to the fluid.

Thanks for the link, I wanted to try something a bit cheaper out 1st before spending at least £300 on a 345mm upgrade.

How much do you think I could get back by selling my 312mm set up?

In my opinion unless you want the looks I'd save the money and just stick some decent pads/discs on with decent fluid. The feel will be a lot better than stock and for about a quarter of the price of the 345mm set up. I'm running ATE Super Racing Blue and got a set of DS2500's to go on with the standard discs when I get chance.

That was my thinking too.

Do i need vag.com to bleed/chage the brake fluid? ( sure i have seen it somewhere )

Na I just did mine with a mates pressure bleeder. Easy peasy. I've read somewhere you're supposed to do the clutch at the same time though I didn't and haven't had any problems.

I spent Sunday slamming the car around the Welsh hills. I must admit the brakes heated up quite quickly but didn't fade or smell.

So either I wasn't using them enough or the 312mm setup works quite well.
Although I caused my LCR's brakes to fail on the track after 8 minutes so for peace of mind I will go 345mm + Fluid and pads.

DS2500's handle heat quite well but they need to be warmed up before they have the bite of standard.

I boiled my brakes on a track day at Bedford but that was a rookie error from me; I'd assumed the stealers had changed the fluid (as it was due at the service) but they hadn't. Two year old fluid doesn't last long!! They also left a screwdriver under my bonnet which I didn't realise till a couple of days after. Should've complained but was way too busy at the time.

Basically though I don't think the 345 set-ups necessary. The 312's pretty decent, but with all brake set ups you need to change the fluid fairly regularly if you're doing track work.

My girlfriend had a car crash the other day (she's fine just shaken up) and I drove like an idiot because I was so worried. I hold my hands up and say I shouldn't have been driving like that but we've all done it. I suffered some MASSIVE brake fade to the point that it felt like there was no point even pressing the pedal. I'm now looking into some new fluid and some red stuff pads then new discs before i go down the route of a whole new set up

Sorry to hear, glad she's alright. I know I'd do it in that situation. Definitely get some good fluid in and a good set of pads, you'll struggle to make them fade then. My fluid was sha**ed for about 3 months until I got chance to change it - after about 4/5 hard brakings there was almost nothing left! Quite funny really, only because I didn't have to do any big journeys.
