Sorry to dig up an oldish thread but did you ever manage to sort out fitting the auto dimming mirror? I wouldn't mind fitting one if it is easy and cheap enough.

The "3B0" part of that part number means it was originally from a Passat, though I've seen reported that the Superb guys go for a Galaxy mirror as they are cheaper secondhand and there are more of them around in the scrappy's! My B5 Passat was speced up with one and so I included that on my wife's 9N Polo buying spec. The Passat one failed after about 8 years, the liquid escaped and when that happens you need to replace it or probably fail the MOT as the rear view mirror becomes unusable - double vision. I bit the bullet and bought new from VW and that hurts!! There were just too many stories about folk buying secondhand at half price and the mirrors failing after a year or so. So, don't spend too much on a secondhand mirror!

its a genuine SEAT part as was fitted as with the FR 'Luxury pack' along with power folding door mirros etc, without removing the headlining I cant see how its wired into the car but from the pictures you'll get the general idea. I believe its wired into the same place as the interior light but dont quote me on that. You can see the cabling for the mirror in the pics.

Is that a switch on the mirror to turn it on and off? If it is then I don't see why it would have to be wired to the ignition live as It will be turned off via the switch?

I'd always advice anyone thinking about fitting this to try to get one with a switch so that you have the option to use it or not to use it, having had both, I've found the switch is handy in certain conditions, maybe in town heavy traffic when following traffic's lights cause it to darken the image, but there are cyclists or dummies with only side lights/no lights on that you now can't really see very well.

There is a plug and socket arrangement, though you could just splice the wires together instead of plug and socket.

I'm not sure if it has any permanent lives fitted it, it probably does not need them as when the ignition is off you tend to be stationary!

I have been looking at buying the Gentex GENK2 mirror, it has an on and off switch and no messing with rain sensors as I don't want them anyway, I might even go for the GENK5 which has the in built compass display. According to them you need to have a 12v live and 12v ignition live cable to wire it to. Now I know NOTHING about electronics, does that sound right? Would I have to unplug the battery to fit this or can I just tap in to another cable with power on?

I had a look at the wires today and the light has a brown/black, a brown and a red/black wire going to it, any idea what they are? The alarm has a blue, a yellow and something else going to it.

from left to right.

earth..live..switched earth

Awesome, thanks. One more stupid question, is switched earth what they mean when they say ignition live? Or is that something else? I need live and ignition live for this auto dimming mirror to work. I am assuming then I can turn it on and off when the ignition is off, but also turning the ignition on/off with also turn it on/off.

Edit: I need GROUND and IGNITION POWER, is ground the same as earth? Is ignition power switched earth? I am such a noob :help:

Maybe I could just wire it to permanent live as it has a timer doesn't it that turns the light off if left on? So this would turn the mirror off if left on?

You can't wire it that way. The reason the light turns off, is because of the switched earth. It won;t work in the same way for a mirror.

The easy thing to do is take a switched live at the fuse box, up the A pillar and along the roof lining

The problem I have is that I have curtain airbags and not sure I can remove the a pillar without setting an airbag off. When you say take a switched live do you mean scotch lock on to one? I might actually able to run it in the rubber door seal next to the a pillar.
