Question, what's the coppers view on how fast you get to 40 or the speed limit so if I was to rinse it to 40 am I breaking the law or will said copper have me for driving with undue care? Just wondering...

Depends where you did it I guess. If there wasn't much traffic around you and it was safe to do so, and you were in complete control of the vehicle (no wheel spin etc) then I guess there's nothing he could do...

Its called excessive acceleration and is judged by the eye of the beholder!

So you can get done, and you will get done if they want to do you

Simple decision; if you dont drive like a ****** in the first place, you don't give a cop the need to be a "******", or, "do his/her job", as it's better known.

Why would you even need to do that?

because its a hot hach not a Daewoo Matiz its meant for a little enjoyment.

There's a time and a place for everything though. As an LCR owner I can assure you I'm only too aware that the car is there to enjoy. As a cop, I can also assure you that too many people drive like planks and then complain when "some nob from the Feds did me for X, Y or Z".

By all means, enjoy the car. Why anyone would feel the need to cane it right in front of a Police officer though I don't know, just smacks of stupidity to me. It's the equivalent of shouting and swearing in a public place and complaining that the Police are targeting you.

I have respect for the police but Motorists are seen as a easy target by police, there's policing and there's being a complete power hungry bellend IMO

it comes down to common sense really.

If u rag it from 0-30 in a school zone at 3 oclock in the afternoon, you probably shouldnt have a licence.

But if u wanna give it some beans on an empty A road on a sunday morning, although it would more be down to the copper, you probably would just get a slap on the wrists and a stern look.

And really, if you do want to throw it around abit, thats what track days are for, at the end of the day, public roads are for public use, and the same rules apply to everyone no matter what car you drive.

Dont quote me on that tho.

Copper can still do ya even if your wheels don't spin. Launching hard and accelerating fast is classed as dangerous driving even if your not exceeding speed limit of the road your driving on.

That's quite a generalisation, though I'll agree, because motorists are THERE in the moment it's an easy statistic for officers. The fact stands however, motorists can still only be prosecuted if they've committed an offence. We can't just make stuff up. Ultimately I've got a family to feed so I've gotta be above board to keep my job, obviously.

Tessitura speaks a lot of sense. There's a time and a place.

People in the police force are no different to any other work force you always get dickheads only the ******** that pulls you over has the power to do something

But as said there's a time and a place use your loaf!

We can't just make stuff up.

police do though just depends how power hungry they want to be or are.
i know there not all like that though.
i see no harm in getting up to speed quickly if anything its convenient to others obviously in a lcr its not like your going to get to 30mph at lightnening speed.
i will add i dont go launching my car or getting upto speed as quick as possible unless im in the tractor.

Followed a marked police car in a 40mph zone doing 55mph. Pulled up at a set of lights, so I said " Oi you do realise that's a 40 don't you!"
He replied "Yes thanks!" And the wheelspun off.

Well for excessive acceleration i got an asbo, which was 4 years ago in my younger days! Complete joke and i was only pulling out of a junction and getting upto the speed of the road but oh well

on the M6 on the way home from work, bout 10pm, pulled out onto the road, pretty much empty at this time, was doing a few mph over the limit.

Unmarked volvo pulls up behind me, tailgates me for about half a mile, i pull into middle lane to let him past, pulls up beside me, flashes his lights, waves at me to slow down, proceeds to accelerate off into the distance, overtaking and even UNDERTAKING the other cars on the road.

I think common sense should dictate here..

firstly, it may be an unpopular point of view, but they are the police, if they want to speed, undertake and wheel spin there will always be a justification for it, call on the radio, something to respond to..

There are a number of fairly ambiguous driving related charges, from careless, reckless, dangerous, without due care and attention.. Any one of which would apply if you are red lining it gear to gear through town. Accelerating at excessive speed, approaching a junction at excessive speed, excessive breaking, are also offences.

We own performance vehicles because we like to go fast, if you happen to get stopped whilst doing so what happens is largely going to be down to who you are, the state of your car and what you were actually doing. We all know the rules of the road, we like to drive a bit faster you run the risk of getting a ticket. When i'm putting my foot down, accelerating rapidly i know what i'm doing is against the law. In my experience getting stopped and making a smart assed comment about what they were doing is probably not going to do you any favours... If you're that worried that your drving style is going to get you in trouble then it probably is.

False actually, I've had many occasions no offence where certain traffic cops just want to be assholes and think because your car is modified that your a total scrote, they get shirty even if your totally cooperative, disrespecting my car by leaning there keys up against my paintwork while eyeing up my perfectly in date tax disc, putting his hat on my roof, and that's for stopping with a headlight out that must have happened mid journey, the car is clearly looked after but many times they act like no it all high and mighty nobs, don't get me wrong some are top blokes my mates a copper himself and I've been out as an observer in a traffic car but some are total jobs worths.

I don't drive dangerously I prob know more what I'm doing than most road users I just like enjoying my car, I don't mean lighting the tyres up but wafting off up to speed is all.
