I've just bought a RCD310 HU to replace a temperamental Altea original HU (turns itself on during the night). I thought it would be a matter of just plug and play, but I've heard there could be gateway issues that might affect the use of this HU in my 2005 car (battery drain). Could anyone please advise on any other problems that might arise from me installing it, and, what else I might need to do to correctly install the HU in the car?

Thanks in advance.

It will be plug and play wiring wise, do you also have the fascia for the round edged OEM HU?
You will need a new CAN gateway to prevent battery drain with a new generation OEM HU as the L or above boxes were from mid 2007 on, fortunately on the Altea this is very easy to get to (behind glovebox on my 07).

If you look on Google for Eddie-NL he is a great guy that can supply a new gateway, pre-coded to your requirements, at half the dealer cost. All you then need is the code for the stereo and you're away.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to order the surround through Dave@Sere, but he's away until the 21 Aug. I've had a look at the wiring and the quadlock is missing a wire to the safe pin. Can I just take 12v feed from another pin to it, if so, which one? Thanks again.

In that case I don't know about the missing pin, I wouldn't recommend tapping into any pin as it is a multiplexed system and it may cause electrical faults elsewhere.
I would try fitting it to see if that wire is necessary.

I've decided against the RCD310. Tried to wire it in and it does need the wire to the safe pin, which is missing from my quadblock. No power at all to the HU. I have also heard of the battery drain issue that could possibly affect my car. A friend has put it into his 2007 passat and it works, so, he might be buying it off me. Can anyone suggest any other HU's? Really wanted to keep the standard look, but open to other suggestions. Want to keep as many functions as possible ie. steering wheel functionality. \Thanks again in advance for any further input.

Zenec NC2010, no battery drain, MFA readouts, full MFSW integration, integrated CAN adapter etc.

Getting a bit old these days but great functionality, NC2011D replaced this model.

Check out Kenwood and Pioneer VAG specific HU's. whatever you do, avoid £200 Chinese ones.

Very nice, but a bit out of my price range. Thanks for the input though.

Thanks. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for something like these.

Sorry to bump and old thread but.....

I've got the same problem in my 2008 Leon.
There isn't a safepin in the quad lock. I was going to get this sorted by a local
Reputable car audio place however the guy said that if it doesn't have the safe pin in the quad lock then the canbus might need updating.

However my VIN number suggests that the canbus would be fine and my car shouldn't suffer power drain

I'm confused! Any help appreciated!
