Took my Leon in for its service in July.

I was given an Ibiza ST as a courtesy car. 7 speed automatic.

Got in it and it was a rocket ship I thoght it was a 1.8tsi.

I was shocked when I was told it was a 1.2tsi. The thing didnt half shift!!!

Th vw groups range seems to be the best with nippy small engines! take for instance Nissan their qashqai is a big car and they put a little engine in it and when you want to set off its like theirs a donkey under the bonnet not a horse in sight.

Car career began with a Vauxhall bertone astra, then a BMW 318ci, then downsized to a 316ti when my dad died. Got a crappy wee megane coupe which died on me, got shot of that and got a mk1 Leon 1.4. Traded that in for my current MK2 TDI FR. Love it.

So who was the best?

For smiles I'd say the turbo'd type r as it was mega quick

The charged one was the best for track days thanks to the super smooth delivery of the charger.

I also liked both my gsi's, straight line speed they were very quick.... Just didn't handle anywhere near as good as the Hondas..... They were also not very reliable :-(

My mk2 FR tdi is a good solid all rounder though.... Not as quick as what I've had previous but pretty nippy for a diesel (stage 2 -- S.h.a.r.k mapped) and great on fuel.

Mg ZS 120bhp
Mk1 TT, 225 mapped to 275 ish
Astra tdi with sport button - 170bhp?? (Lasted 2 weeks)
Citroen c4 diesel
A4 2.0tfsi special ed, s line, quattro 220bhp version
Ibiza ecomotive as second car
Leon fr pd170 mapped to 200bhp as second car.

TT best car by a long long long way. Not practical once married. A4 lovely motor, and even tho higher end bhp, doesn't feel 'fast'. Good family motorway car.

Leon is OK, but was after fun car since i kept ragging the ibiza eco, should have got another TT + instruct wife that it doesn't matter that baby seat won't fit, baby won't be in my toy.

My Mk2 Leon Cupra replaced a 2008 Renaultsport Clio 197, great handling car and quite poky, amazing engine but the build quality was terrible and you were just waiting for the next fault to happen. My 4th gear syncro went (just out of warranty) and it was cheaper to replace the whole gearbox than fix it, of course - new clutch at the same time and then the climate control packed up leaving a £3500 bill from Renault on a 2008 car which was just over 3 years old at the time. Shocking! I complained to Renault Uk until I was blue in the face and they contributed to the bill, but I would still never buy another French car again out of warranty. Although it handled like a go-kart it just lacked power and torque, so a 305 bhp mk2 Leon Cupra now sits in its place which handles well, doesnt let me down and pulls like a train!
