I've just ordered a 1.4 TSI SC in apollo blue - with SEAT sound, interior LED and free tech pack :) and was wondering if these engines are prone to oil use. I know the supercharged 1.4 had a bad reputation for being unreliable and drinking oil or is it too early to tell if the ea211 engine is dependable?

1400 miles on mine thus far, in about 6 weeks. Not a drop (or at least, not a noticeable drop) of the slippery stuff has been consumed.

Whether that will continue or not remains to be seen. Although there's a handy little netted-off cubby on the left hand side of the boot which is just the right size for a 1L oil bottle and some kitchen roll.

Not a drop in 5 1/2 months.

Remember that the new 140 PS TSi engine is in no way related to the old twin charged unit. The old 1.4TSi turbo (122PS) did not have a reputation of drinking oil, that was only the twin charged one with the problem on some cars.

That's good to know, I think VAG must have struggled to get a twin charge engine reliable so dropped the idea and went back to turbo only but with a short intake and an air to water heat exchanging intercooler to combat turbo lag.

I was under the impression though that the twin charge engine issues have pretty much been resolved or are there still issues with the new ones?

None of the petrol turbo's fitted to the new Leon are twin charged thus VAG must have decided it was an idea not worth pursuing.

You picked a sweet engine my friend

I know, love it. It would be better if the throttle was more linear though, after 5500 miles I still find myself over or under revving it sometimes. You could say that it's drive error, but I've never had a problem with any other cars I've owned and a lot of my customers have the same problem also. The problem is, you press the gas, nothing much happens, so you press it more and then you're at 3500 rpm.

I just love that engine. I cannot get over how much torque it has from such low revs.

I thought my old 1.9Tdi was pretty good, but this is miles better.

I wonder if the 1.8tsi is that much better as, although it's got an additional 40bhp, the torque is the same.
