Hello all,

This is my first message here, so I'd like to introduce myself a bit,

I live in the netherlands and I have been driving my 2006 Seat Ibiza 6l 1.4 16V Sensation for a year now.

I've had few problems with it, but as time progresses and miles are made it's inevitable that some problems occur.

The latest of which is a groaning noise that comes from under the bonnet when the car is in gear (doesn't matter which one). And the noise gets progressively louder when I accelerate. The sound reminds me of that which a gearbox makes when you normally go in reverse.
It shifts properly, it doesn't slip or perform poorly, it just makes the noise, and I don't like noises :p

So I've taken the basic steps, I've replaced the oil, added fin gear with teflon. the noise seems unchanged although it perhaps shifts a bit smoother, I've only made about 30-45km with it since I added the stuff, so perhaps it just needs a bit more time?

If it remains unchanged, perhaps any of you can give me some tips on what I can try?

If it does it in any gear maybe it is the diff that is worn.

Not sure how I could go about testing this... Any ideas?

Edit: it also seems to be more present in the lower gears...

Any sort of whining noise(like you get in reverse) is probably down to a worn or failing bearing somewhere in the gearbox/diff, the fact it makes more noise in the lower gears points to this also as the gearbox is technically workin harder to convert the engine speed into a high tourqe/low speed output.

Best thing to do is have a gearbox specialist have a look, they will have heard this many times and shouldn't charge you too much, not nearly as much as a dealer will want anyway!
