I think this means he doesn't have the code for it. I think it's about £25 to have them recoded
Can usually get the codes of eBay quite cheaply, I.e. less than £10. So for £37 I'd take the gamble. Check the serial to see what car it is originally from will be either VWZ for Volkswagen or SEZ for Seat.
There is no justification for the dealers charging you for a code. They get a code from a sticker on the side of the radio unit itself, then enter that code into the computer. a few seconds later, maybe a minute or two at a push, they get the code and hand it to you. It's disgusting that they can charge you for doing that. It's literally them pushing buttons and they don't even have to get off their chair. It takes no more than 5 minutes.
Are these Rcd310 ok?, I've though about one of these myself as a cheap upgrade to the standard Seat headunit...
Will the steering wheel controls and Aux input next to the handbrake still work?
i've been tempted by one of these as well, but worried cos i'm pre facelift as well. would the ipod dock and bluetooth still work, along with steering wheel controls?
i'm sure i saw a thread somewhere that mentioned a certain collection of digits in your vin would let you know if it would cause battery drain or not........if you manage to get to the bottom of it lads, keep us informed!
cheeeeeeeers
I think from memory its the 8th of your 10 digit vin number needs to be an 8? To not have the battery drain issue...but could somebody confirm my hazy memory????
