Ebay china intercooler

Hi everyone

So i had the ebay china intercooler fitted last weekend and everything was going great. I increased the boost by 1 on my SPS device.

SPS settings:

B - 7
T - 5
F - 8

It was going really well until Wednesday the intercooler pipe started slipping off causing the car to cut out. Car went into the garage yesterday to have it sorted. So i collect the car yesterday and drive home then i notice this weird jump at 3k revs. This only happens when i'm flooring it by the way. I hit 3k revs, it jumps to 3.5k, back to 3k, and carries on with full power all the way through like normal. This all happens very quickly like when you're usually on boost but it does this strange jump.

Last weekend when i got the car back it was amazing and didn't miss a beat! Now after the hose coming off and then going back on again, it's started doing this? Is it a boost leak or something? Faulty dv? I'm going mad, why can't it just be normal :(

Thanks!

Ajay

SOLVED - Poor Revo map by Revo dealer. Car now reverted back to standard.

Hi mate

Yup still on standard clutch. But the funny thing is everything was running great when i first got the car back. Now the 2nd time i get it back after the pipe coming off it's started this issue. Which makes me think it isn't clutch related. (well i hope not)

That is weird, did you get that 4k flat spot sorted in your other thread?

I'm also interested in how the SPS switch works, considering a map myself

Yeah i got that sorted by getting an upgraded intercooler as my intake temps were running quite high. Revo SPS is great, would be better if my car was running perfect first though grrr!

It's your clutch slipping when you nail it, mine does the same, the revs jump and then it catches and carries on.. Another £1000+ purchase coming soon for you then :)

As josh said, mines just started doing the same. New year, new clutch. £1200 lighter, gotta put that one by the Mrs now! Think I'll leave it until the weekend after as we'll be signing for a new kitchen then which will make my £1200 look insignificant. And she'll probably agree to anything at the time due to retail induced excitement ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone. I know it kind of sounds like a clutch and i will be VERY surprised if it is the clutch. If it is, i'm going to be mega pee'd off :(

My last topic was quite similar except revs were doing something a little different. This was down to high intake temps after the Revo remap. I then got the china intercooler which cured the issue straight away. I altered the map settings via my SPS controller and the car was running spot on with plenty of power.

A few days later my IC pipe started slipping off causing the car to cut out. The garage put it back together but he used a different coupler this time because he said it fit alot better like a glove. This is wrong and he should have kept the coupler that was already in there. I'm sure this other coupler he's put on is causing a boost leak as it's not a super tight fit like the first one he used. This problem only started when i got the car back and he used the wrong coupler which fits, but i'm guessing it's not tight enough. I've read boost leaks can cause boost spikes so fingers crossed it's not the clutch.

Going there tonight for 6.30pm to stick the other coupler back in and ensure it's locked into place properly!

Thanks all.
Ajay

Update:

Right, so thought i would update this as i thought it was solved... obviously i was wrong :(

- The intercooler is all good with the correct coupler.
- This rev issue is back but it's intermittent and doesn't happen every time i floor it?
- The garage seems to think it's a boost issue - maybe a Revo map problem? Saying that, my SPS device threw my map settings into valet mode for no damn reason. I reset it and the map is back to normal but i still have this rev issue.
- We did a smoke boost leak test and there were a couple of little things which we solved, now there's no more leaks.
- Car was logged with no issues found.
- Intake temps are still high (sorry i don't have the logs to hand).

So now i've come to the end of playing games with Revo. I've had this issue since the car was mapped driving home after it was installed. Like i said it's an intermittent problem and even if i try to re-create the issue it won't always do it.

I was told in the beginning my intake temps were too high causing my funny rev issue. He said i needed an intercooler to bring temps down to fix this. I got an intercooler which fixed the issue for about 3-4 days and then it started again.

So after all of this faffing around getting an intercooler (when really i didn't need to waste money on one right now) i still have the same problem. Let's just say i've lost faith in Revo and i want this crap off my car. This has been a complete waste of time, money and effort. Thanks for the high intake temp diagnosis Revo, the problem is STILL THERE!!

Think you need to figure out if it's a hardware or software problem and go from there

But how can i? Revo are useless and already gave me the wrong diagnosis for my problem where i've wasted money on an intercooler. Leak test and logging has been done so i don't know what else i can do.

Does anyone know what would cause high intake temps?

Intercollegiate should not have been needed for stage 1 mapping, I would say the problem is the dealer you are using, need to find another vag specialist imp

You're telling me!?

Revo HQ answer to everything is 'speak to your Revo dealer'. Not very helpful though when your dealer doesn't answer the phone or get back to your messages. I'm relying on Revo HQ to sort this out now and i want this map cleared off my car. It's ruined my past few months experience with the car and i still haven't got to enjoy it properly.

It won't be a map issue. Either you have the revo settings wrong for your car (needs logging), or you have an undiagnosed hardware issue. What are the IATs? In this weather I haven't seen double digits with mine.
