Hi
Its probably been asked before but on the two door what is the square plastic hole insert in the sill which has a matching flange on the door that fits in when the door is closed ?
is it to let the door drain water out ?
All other cars seem to have drain hole in the bottom of the door

Assuming we are talking about the same thing (see pictures below) I am confident it has nothing to do with drainage.

I still think it is a switch, I would wager there is an inductive sensor mounted behind the plastic insert and that is operated when the metal blade on the door comes onto the proximity of the switch.

Could be part of collision protection, anti burst doors being as they are bigger?

The 5 door doesn't have that, why would they use a different mechanism for whatever it does?

its for drainage for door

Can't be, as it's in the sill.

This sounds the most likely, and the reason why not on the 5 door.

I may be wrong but I thought it was the door switch for the courtesy light.

Did think this myself at first.

So a coconut goes to Kazand, unless anyone else has an offering (sensible please)

Can you post coconuts? Just send me a Bounty that'll do! :D
Tbh, looking at pic again it looks like a bit of an afterthought, maybe after crash testing it needed to be fitted?
