Dealerships changing VAGCOM settings

Hi Guys,

Just out of curiosity, has anyone got there dealership to change some vagcom settings? Would they even do such a thing?

The reason I'm asking is because I want the euro DRL option on. Where the sidelights turn on when the ignition is on. However, I don't want to get the vagcom cable and software just for this feature.

Dealers will not recognise the term VCDS, they use an official VAS tool and I'd be very surprised if they know much about altering any option codes, especially on a car with warranty left on it. What you have described would change the car away from its regional (approved) configuration, and that is not good as far as the importer and insurer and Dept of Transport is concerned and maybe these changes would need extra/different wiring.

Your best option would be to find a member near you who has VCDS and chuck them a few beer tokens.

A dealer could do it but more than likely wouldn't do it unless they were a close mate or family member, I doubt you would have any trouble with changing it with regards to insurance and such, as I believe the EU passed a law stating all vehicles had to have the option where lights would turn on when the cars power was turned on, mostly because a lot of idiots don't put their lights on, I live in Ireland where a lot of EU legislation in enforced and I see new 151 reg cars (we regesiter by year then by which half of the year it was registered in) with lights on all the time and some with out them on, I personally drove a VW golf 131 plate where the lights were on all the time without the light switch on, which made me question the point of the light switch in the first place

What, a VCDS kit is for life, just like a dog, it is future proof, well at least you can trade it in against the next version.

If its the 1.4 ACT, look in the manual there's something about Nordic settings. (just saw its 1.2 but will probably be the same)

The juste of it is:

Wiper arm down,
pull forward and hold to flash,
turn ignition on for 3 seconds then turn off.

This turns OFF the Nordic settings.
Now its just the front side/parking lights and rear led's that are on rather than main lights.

To put back to main lights on as DRL:
Wiper arm up,
pull forward and hold to flash,
turn ignition on for 3 seconds then turn off.

If the option is available under Guided functions within ODIS the procedure can be carried out by a main dealer as any test plans available through ODIS are SEAT + warranty approved.

As for Daytime running lights this option is available within ODIS as long as the car is capable of running them. It's about 5 minutes work without the vehicle health check.

Yes, but you'll most likely find that if the dealer hasn't done it before they will be clueless that such a setting or GFF option even exists in ODIS to be able to do it and will just tell you it can't be done. Don't forget that most of the time you end up having to speak to a service advisor and not one of the techs. Much like when I wanted my bi-xenons set to tourist mode before taking my car abroad. The dealers I spoke to said there were no settings to change. I subsequently found out they were wrong.

I do get what you mean front of house product knowledge can be very lacking at times Generally easier to ask to speak to the M/t if you actually want to make progress just dont argue with him unless you have 100% proof that he is wrong but in fairness everyone is human and we cant all be right 100% of the time

One of the dealers told me no headlight adjustments needed to be done at all for going abroad, and the other dealer advised me to just fit lens deflectors. I can do the electronic adjustment myself now anyway with VCDS so I no longer need to listen to a dealer telling me there is nothing to be changed

Out of interest How does VCDS work with the newer cars does it have full functionality?

Yes, although on some of very newest cars the label files may not be fully complete meaning that individual bit settings for some of the module codings might not yet be documented. Until the label files are completed in a future release of the software, this means you are either going blind with changing those bit settings or you are relying on someone else in the community who has already worked out what a particular coding byte is used for.

So I tried the nordic setting and I'm a tad unsure what "pull forward and hold to flash" means. I flashed the high beams but that didn't work. What is supposed to flash?

Cant remember exactly as it was back in Oct 2014 when the wife picked up her 1.4 FR Edition.
She had the "Convenience pack" which is auto lights, auto wipers and such like.
We noticed that it didn't matter what position you put the rotary light switch on the dash to, the lights were on constantly. I thought it was meant to be just the side lights.

On page 91 of the manual is a section "Nordic Country Solutions"
It gives the "Activation" and "De-activation" sequences.
I must have "De-activated" as now it's just the sidelights rather than main lights that are on in the Auto position (rotary dash switch).
After dark, main lights come on when switch is on Auto.

Do you have this section in your manual ? If not, I can try and get a screenshot of it.
