Hi Everyone

I've just received my insurance renewal notice for my 2011 Leon FR+ CR170 (with Revo Stage 1 remap) and I was a bit shocked as it's gone up massively.

Last year with the remap declared I managed to get it for £330 with Bell and this year they want £611! I've done some checks and without the remap it's about £300 so it's quite a big difference.

I'm 35, live in good area, had a clean license since I was 17 and have got 16 years NCB.

I've done quotes on all the main comparison sites but I can't seem to get a decent price, they are all coming back at about £600 or more!

I'm just wondering if anyone else whose got a remap has any recommendations for remap friendly insurance companies?

Any help would be great!

Thanks :)

Greenlight, Adrian flux, Sky insurance and brentacre are the modified insures I can think of. All brokers but most of them you'll have to phone to get quotes, they've always been cheaper than comparison sites for me.

Just pay close attention to who the underwriters are if you go through these. Some horror stories about on the web.

Thanks guys!

Yeah that's the only thing I'm concerned about, I don't want to end up having a policy that's underwritten by a company that's got a bad rep.

Quick update of quotes so far....

Aviva = £532 (but they need to refer with a 'level 1' underwriter before confirmed the price)

Greenlight = £399 underwritten by Ageas (Belgian multinational insurance company) who I've never heard of but have a 'Good' rating on money.co.uk

I'm going to try and phone Adrian flux, Sky insurance and Brentacre in the next day or two.

Admiral were good for me mate. My premium actually went down when I increased my power percentage to over 26% as I made more power from stage 1 than I expected.

Bell, the company I'm with at the moment are actually part of the Admiral group. I've been with them for about 7 years as they have always matched the cheapest quote I've got anywhere else.

I called them up last night to say I was thinking of leaving due to the large increase over last year, within in a few minutes they had managed to reduce it from £611 to £420!

I'm debating staying with them seeing as there is only £20 difference and their price a few extras includes (guaranteed car hire & legal cover) which the greenlight one doesn't.

Personally if they have matched on gone cheaper then i would stay with them as you will get an admin fee to change insurance so you will still end up better off with your current company.

That's interesting because when I spoke to them the other evening, they said they wouldn't cover me for anything above a 25% bhp increase. 26 years old and 8 years NCB

Mine is in the category of 11-25% increase of bhp, that must be why they cover me.

That's a big reduction, I'm convinced insurance companies make numbers up. How mine come down from just over £400 to just over £300 when I amended mine astonished me!
Sounds better though mate, £20 is neither here or there, especially if there are a couple of sweetners with them.

I'm a bit older than you (cough 42) with 16 years NCB but that's what they initially said to me when I proposed to increase 26% and above and the system declined the proposal. Then the advisor spoke to his manager and returned with the following 3 questions:

Q. Was I increasing the power for racing/use on a racetrack - A. No
Q. Was I increasing the power for road racing purposes - A. No
Q. Was I increasing the power for increased fuel efficiency.....

Now, I discussed this with the agent and seeing as I have no interest in the first two and due to the fact that if I drive normally the increased torque doesn't seem to reduce my MPG but in fact seems to increase it (I'm now getting an average 28mpg, up from 26mpg) my answer was yes....and guess what....with that answer the "system" accepted my proposal!

Telling you, made up numbers mate. Not the first time I've had experience with insurers and strange goings on with prices and details...I could write a small book!

Pretty interesting read that, amazing that their "system" will accept after certain criteria are met. Nonetheless will be shopping around a few different modified insurance companies come renewal time. I'm with admiral for the named driver Ncb for my partner, which boosted up 3 years whilst she was a learner. She now has 4 years and only been driving for 7 months on full license!

That's good and something I wasn't aware of (so you can get a discount on your premium based on NCB that has been awarded for loyalty and not earned...they make this **** up! Great for the customer, but just adds to my train of thought that it's totally inconsistent) I'm always interested in people's findings and ultimate results when searching for insurance, especially when modified. Mostly due to the fact that it's so inconsistent, let me know how you get on in the end mate.

Yeah I didn't know they done it either until I had the first renewal through after her being on there for a year. So just decided to keep her on the insurance, was funny having a 230bhp mk4 golf on L plates . Definitely helped her with insurance prices now she's on full license.

I think it's around February time that my renewal is due so will post up what prices I manage to get nearer the time.
