Hi all,
Have just spent an hour using the search bar but haven't found any threads about the problem I'm having, so time to consult the forum's collective gurus.

I bought an LCR last week, which is fitted with a Kenwood BT92SD head unit, and the previous owner was upfront about telling me that the radio didn't work. He said it needed an aerial amplifier. I ordered one, it arrived today, and so I plugged it in with the head unit out of the dash, and the HU got radio reception straight away. Great, I thought.

The problem is that when I put the radio back in the dash, the signal gets very weak. I was sat i the passenger side of the car with the door open installing the unit, and when I closed it the signal disappears completely!

With the head unit out of the car, and just the amplifier plugged in (no car aerial), I get signal. Am I right in thinking my aerial is doing nothing?

I'm thinking of upgrading the HU to a DAB one in the future (as the menu structure on the Kenwood is awful), anyone recommend a good aerial to replace the stock one? Ideally I want it to look standard.

Yes, the adapter is the just like that one, and I've got the blue wire connected into the ISO connector, connected to the 12V power control wire (blue/white). I've checked there's 12V on it.

With no amplifier connected, I get no radio signal at all. With the amplifier, with the head unit out of the dash, the radio signal is great.

When I put the whole kit back into the dash, the signal gets worse, then disappears if I close the door. I took the lot back out to make sure nothing had become disconnected.

Hmmm, don't know on that one then mate, that's really strange, hopefully someone else will have some idea what's going on.

On mine the aerial Base on the roof was corodded and I bought a new Base from ebay installed it and never looked back

Thanks 4ndy633, I'll look at that next. I did see a few posts on that.

Do you know if there has been any modifications to the wiring?? possibly led upgrades etc, splicing into cables etc

No LEDs, but as for wiring modifications I haven't had enough of a chance to look properly yet. Nothing obvious, but then it's a second-hand car so who knows!!

I may have an issue with one of the door switches as the main interior light won't go off when the doors are shut. The rear ones do. Could they be linked?

I would say they probably are, seems too much of a coincidence not to be.
Good write-up on here for replacing the door module and seems the eBay uk ones are ok ;)

OK, so highly embarrassing.... the light didn't go off because it wasn't set to do so - had the switch in the wrong position. This isn't even my first Leon 1M.....

So there is some radio signal this morning but it's very poor. I'll check the state of the aerial base, and report back!
