6. Supercharger Magnetic Clutch

This problem occurred in cars built in 2010 and 2011. The car would make a squeak or ticking noise where the supercharger would struggle to engage upon trying to activate the supercharger at low rpm. The problem was a part of the water pump where there exists a magnetic clutch responsible for supercharger activation. The upgraded part had modified clutch material that solved the problem.

Some people had it replaced and the problem returned but I believe they just had a new outdated variant fitted which lead to the same problem.

Solution:
Upgraded water pump, standard on cars post 2011.
Thank you for detailed report on occurring problems for 1.4tsi modified engines, Just i want to know what a modified that you did for the supercharger magnetic clutch, because i am tired from this problem after getting stage 2, any help please?!

Lol! Don't get me wrong. I love mine too but...wow so many things apart from the twinchargers can go wrong with respect to the gearbox that one may say "sigh". My dq200 has a problem with the synchromesh for third gear.
Had mine changed in september, 3rd gear was pretty much grinding. Was lucky to have them replace the entire box

Wow. This can't be a coincidence. My mileage is low. Only about 128k km. Replaced clutches, replaced mechatronic. The dealer is going to ask Vw for goodwill on a new gearbox. This is surreal. The gearbox is so simple on that side. Not fancy at all. Don't see why it can't hold up.

A dealer tech gave me the heads up and told me that the warranty on the box was 5 yrs ; i just barely made it in with a month left. And the dealer/vw was still being difficult.service history will be the argument that they will wanna hit u with

Mine's been ok since its been replaced, feels like it doesn't rev as freely as before tho but no probs so far. Will be employing a shorter oil change interval for the gearbox . 25k instead of 40k it's necessary for our hotter climate. Also think my timing chain is acting up, hearing a ticking/rattling; any insight? Have a water pump on standby

If your timing chain is acting up I urge you to get it sorted sooner rather than later. Some of these engines have bad timing chain tensioners. Not sure if Vw has a too for it but there are timing chain tensioner kits for the 1.4 tsi that are easily available on eBay.

Fix that the same time as when you switching the waterpump. The ticking and rattling could be the waterpump too when it's going on its last. The impeller sticks and moves and makes noise.

If you can make a video of the ticking it might help.

Dead turbo help (lucifer666)

Hi looking for help. We recently bought a bocanegra, which was mapped to 210bhp. So I thought it may be useful to buy a miltek turbo back system with sports cat. Which didn't fit as easy or as well as I had hoped.. Had to re route a/c and alt wires to behind the cat. Anyway it's been about 3 weeks and now the turbo has sh** it's self. Does anyone know if this has anything to do with a possible pressure difference on the pcv system or just bad luck? Please help ordering a new turbo and don't want to kill this one :D
Ps she's on 65000 miles and is a 2011 year

Hi all , new to this site , have owned my Bocanegra for nearly 4 years , just recently noticed a tapping on start-up for roughly 2 seconds then goes away , as soon as I drive off and get above 2000rpm ish I'll hear the same noise for the first minutes worth of driving , am I right in thinking it's the chain tensioner ?

Hi , I've had a miltek turbo back exhaust on mine for about 2 years now and never had any turbo problems , so might be down to bad luck ?

56 vw golf 1.4 GT TSI

Hi, I have a 56 plate gt tsi golf 1.4.. I have boost problems, when using the boost I get very bad crunching & wining noises (almost sounds like shaking screws inside a bean can), and the boost gauge can't make it's mind up what it wants to do, I definitely don't have full power and has always been like this.. any ideas what's wrong with it??? Thanks

Should I stay away from the 2014 seat leon fr 1.4 tsi then?

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

No, that original engine has been dumped years ago, these problems related only to the twin charger engines, that Leon engine will just have a turbo - or has it? Anyway later engines were meant to have been sorted out.

Edit:- I'm not sure if that was a very useful posting there by me - sorry (you wrote 2014, I read 2017!)

So the 2014 leon had twin turbo engines?
