So my car is due it's third service with MOT and brake fluid change, cost is £267. Booked online and I will get the roadside assistance once the service is complete direct from Seat.
My dealer emailed me to say the car was booked in for the date I asked for and said that if I took out their service account for £349 this would cover this years service MOT and brake fluid change and next years major service, which is £279, so major service next year would only cost £82. I asked if I could still book it online to get the roadside assistance and was told yes as long as it was still on offer.
Now I know this sounds like a great deal but having been in a similar situation with A. Shark where my daughter took out something similar, a service and MOT plan, then when it went for it's MOT and service the following year they found numerous faults and said it will be over £400 on top of the cost of the plan, thank you ma'am, until I got involved, hence the wariness.

Have the emails with price and confirmation about the roadside assistance, will confirm and get it all on a hard copy when I take car in for it's service. Sure it is above board but a bit wary of these things, as they say if it looks too good to be true etc. etc.

Must remember that for the 4th year service the aircon needs full service at £69 on top of the £279 (likely to be at least £289 by next year).

A Major service includes first time replacement of air filter and spark plugs. First time check and adjusting of drive belts, removing the wheels for brake inspection etc.
A lot of "firsts" for £82 along with Full European Breakdown cover. Very good deal indeed.

Gets even worse in the fifth year though.
Although only a minor service the cambelt and water pump are recommended to be replaced (currently £469). By this stage probably front and maybe rear brake pads needed. (currently£125 front and £125 rear), not to mention new set of tyres bought not long ago

Thanks Eric3451, thought it was a good deal, time will tell, I will report back next year God willing. The dealer has always given me services cheaper then the Seat quoted prices for the last two years so have no qualms.
Have only 18000 miles on the car and plan to keep for a good few years so all the expense you mentioned will have to be met head on I'm afraid but having said that I am very very pleased with the car and have only put on a couple of front tyres in my three years of ownership and the annual servicing costs have all that I have spent on the car.

How do they compare to main dealers for updating the software, getting the roadside assistance, etc.etc. I can understand if you get a good one then things can work out a lot cheaper but how do you find a good one.You will probably lose the goodwill from Seat if something major goes wrong and you could be left with a big bill.

In neither case had I been advised of this when booking the service, also puzzled as none of my cars have ever needed a regas (though when I had Audis the dealer did a temperature check from year 3 onwards if I remember correctly, though they were always ok).

Anyway, I checked the position with SEAT who told me: "There is no service interval for air conditioning. We are aware that some dealers are recommending a regas at 2 years but this is not an official SEAT recommendation.". So I have left well alone for now.

This was a ploy when I had a Golf," every" year without fail they phoned me during the service to say I had not asked for an air-con service to which I politely replied we live in Scotland my friend we don't need air-con for the one day of summer we usually get . I had it for 5 years and the air-con was always icy cold within a couple of minutes of running.

My Seat dealership have never mentioned it.

The brochure had a section to help with budgeting for future services and maintenance.
For the aircon it showed a refresh on the third service, an aircon full service on the fourth service with each being done at two year intervals after that.

On a previous car I left the aircon switched off for several months and the seals dried up so the refrigerant gas leaked. I think it better to leave the aircon on (regardless of the season) to keep the seals lubricated.

I tend to run the aircon more in winter to demist the windscreen and at least weekly in summer just to keep the seals in order and up to now have not had a problem, always icy cold, quicker in winter and after a few minutes in summer on a really hot day.

Frequent aircon operation good for seal life. I also try to shut off the aircon 5 to 10 mins before finishing a journey in an attempt to dry out the system to avoid damp areas and smelly bacteria. Still go the full hog with refreshes and servicing on alternate years.

I use aircon all year round, well actually I have always had climate control rather than just the standard aircon, and in all the SEATs I have had none has never had or neeeded any work/regas at all. My dealer gives my 280 a free temp check at service time and it has always passed, which he reckons is down to the frequent use of the system.

Air Conditioning Regas

Quick update on the above. Left the Leon parked for 5 hours the other day when the outside temp was showing 29C. When the climate kicked in it was so cold I thought I'd get hypothermia - so guess a regas is definitely not required as yet!

My thoughts are that its a rip off

All they do is change the oil and filter, air filter ( occasionally ) and pollen filter.

Set of filters is £40
Oil is £40 for a higher rated oil than most dealers use.

So the "free" breakdown cover doesn't really seem free.

The mention of pollen filters reminds me that you can now get allergen filters for most VAG cars for those who suffer from allergies.

Hi guys,


I am due a major service and MOT soon. Can I just take this plan out now and it will cover my upcoming Major service and then any services needed after that? Seems like a good deal to me.

I also need my Cam Belt changing too, but the dealer is about £150 more than an Indy. Might see if they can do me a deal.
