Hi, I've not been on here for ages, cars been going well and been too busy with work.
Anyway asking for a bit of advice. A few months ago my rear wiper stopped working. I've just bought a new rear motor and installed it. Is working but erratically as if it's searching for position.
I know the front wipers need resynching and programming with VCDS do you know if it's the same for the rear wiper (and needs a resynching procedure with VCDS) or have I got a duff motor?, can't find any info suggesting it's needed for the rear wiper.
My gut feeling is it's a resynching thing and I need to get VCDS on it, if so not a problem as I have access to one but not till next week, just need to know if this is the cause or do I need to take my motor back.
Thanks for any help.

No one? Surely I can't be the first to change a rear wiper motor?
Going to give VCDS a go.

Never heard of it needing vcds, i've changed mine, it's just a "dumb" motor from memory

Cheers mty12345, tried VCDS and couldn't find any menu relating to the rear wiper. Think it's a duff new unit ( aftermarket) been in touch with supplier and swapping it tomorrow for OEM part.
Will let you know if it works or if I have the same issues .
Thanks again

Ok guys, problem solved.
Supplier swapped the problematic new motor 'pattern part' for another 'VM' part (vehicle Manufacturer allegedly OEM).
Sure enough the new motor worked straight out of the box.
I only got the pattern part originally cos it was the only one the suppliers website showed for my car , if I'd known they had VM parts at the time would have got one (lesson learned)

In summary for anyone else in the same boat:
No you don't need to synchronise a new rear motor with VCDS (it should work straight after replacement).

Don't buy cheap pattern part get OEM ( you can get it same price if you call and speak with the supplier).

The symptoms I had after fitting the problem part was that it it started to move when ignition turned on no matter what position the wiper stalk was in ( rear on or not). It would move about 1/4 way across windscreen and stop for about 5 secs then move again between 1/4 and half the screen and stop again and continue like this indefinitely. The only way to stop it was to blip the front washers which seemed to turn the rear off completely. If you engage the rear washer, it worked perfectly while holding the washer on (jet worked and wiper operated constantly ) but when stalk released from wash mode it reverted back to the erratic 1/4 movement stop/start.

Hope this helps someone else
All the best.
