Apparently stuff like Android Auto etc wont work properly till its been hacked.

do you know if it is a software hack or they open the unit up ? cheapest i could find to modify the unit is £250 and still errors will show up.

i found this thread which talks of using a usb to ethernet adapter and telnet into the device. it seems all they are is a type of linux system running on tablet style hardware
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/connected-car/golf-mk7-discover-pro-hack-t3089155

and the 858

so to update this i think i have found a solution to upgrade either harman or certain technisat units to mib1 cars. i will update the thread in the next couple of weeks as to the solution.
i think it will be very a reasonable cost to obtain mib2 for everyone with no errors showing on car firmware updateable and lifetime maps
now to find the bigger screen for me

What do you guys think? To much hassle to get oem great unit upgraded? I'm leaning towards buying a Samsung Galaxy tab S2 and putting it over the head unit with magnetic mount. The resolution on that thing is mind blowing

Wow! You had to send it over to activate stuff? Did you ask if they can do it over teamviewer? Hope you get it back soon.

Any rough estimate about the cost?

I am thinking to hold on to my tiny 5" screen for now because:

1. I think I need some more knowledge..
2. I want to get 8" screen. But there is scarcity of 8 inch screen in market. All German seat owners have upgraded their 6.5" screen to 8".

I can get 6.5" here for as less as 90€ (just the screen)
The glove box unit is aound 300-400€ in local classifieds.

I am looking 5QA 035 846 A with HW veraion H30 and SW version 0359. I can get it for 300€. Is it worth it?

Someone told me that If I go to SEAT, they reset the component protection and cpnfigure all FeC ( archives/packages) which were in my car already.
Any additional FeC, like sound system, navigation, mirrorlink, I have to purchase the activation key fron SEAT. That is official way to upgrade.

The one you are going it sideload I think.

for 300 may as well buy harman unit any brand will work vw skoda audi seat
you need older unit i believe 0245 or less for the mib2 std.

i got screen and unit for £80 :roflmao: £36 to clear cp + £26 for carplay usb + of course adaption cost.

although you can update after back in the car.

i think what they do is somehow spoof vw servers with new vin number of later cars when adding packages then fit back in the car with CP removed already. i don`t have vas to do this remotely

That's what the guy who is selling is saying. The older units H24 are hackable. He also told me that those units are inferior. However his unit is H30 and only SEAT can install packages.

I honestly don't like mounting mobile/tablets in car dashboard. They heat up so much.. to the verge of exploding.

So much confusion, that's why I am waiting to clear all my doubts, or I find some good deal.

Can your check with your guy about this? If it's hackable?

yes very confusing i spent nearly two weeks trying to understand this BS. even more confusing is why vw do this ? after all i bought the car i should be able to put any system i want in.

h24 can go to 0346 firmware after unit has been adapted and put back in the car.

Component protection is a scam. They say it prevents thieves from stealing the precious infotainment system. The real reason is to make it so difficult to swap that the customer has to purchase a new car just for full link or 1" more screen size.

That's called capitalism. First create a problem where there was no problem. And then make profit by providing solution.

Sorry for the rant

lol capitalism is rigged for those who created it ala banking cartel big business vw etc.

vw can fix all the problems just buy a new car :roflmao:The computer really does say NO when upgrading because your vin code is too old sir.

Thieves are welcome to steal my mib1 it`s not had a map update since 2013 they could probably not find their way out of the drive with it,

All of a sudden £1400 for the upgrade from VAG retrofits doesn't seem that bad... Just asked Porsche how much to upgrade from PCM3.1 to 4.0 to get Android Auto £4200 :O

LOL

funny how a £50 phone does all of the functions of these units but when they are fitted to cars it`s 1000`s

time i sell old mib1 stuff i should be under £100 for the upgrade seat told me i would need a new car for:roflmao:
all because one entry of a vin number date what a scam.

That 1400 is ridiculous too

They don't want to sell $1000 headunit instead of 20000$ car.
Imagine if they do that, there would be a very long queue before the launch of new headunit in front of SEAT dealer shop , just like you see infront of apple store when they launch new iPhone. Nobody will need new car. And VW will become electronics company instead car manufacture.

nice work. For under £100 I would love to do this, but no doubt I would get something wrong
