One year with the 300 ST 4wd and 9000 miles

So, one year into ownership. Good car, certainly quick but I do have a few things I'm not so sure about so would be grateful for some comments -

1. Terrible flat spot in normal mode - 30-40mph around town, 6th gear and RPM at 1500-1800rpm. Any thoughts? If I go into sport mode the RPM is of course higher but Sport isn't really needed around town driving. Is this usual? Car is on a long life service interval so nothing needed till March 2020!
2. Absolutely no pops and bangs when driving - using Tesco Momentum. Nothing in Normal, or Sport or Cupra modes.
3. 9000 miles in and the exhaust is a lot more throaty in the cabin, but not outside.
4. DSG box holds on to revs far far too long - I guess a DSG chip is the only option but car is on PCP so unwilling to do any mods. Only way to get the revs changing is to go manual with the paddles, but then that defeats the purpose of DSG when in town traffic.
5. Fuel economy averaging 28-34mpg on daily drive to work - town and about 20 miles down A1M.
6. Hands free for phone - such a shame there isn't a connect/disconnect button/function on steering wheel. If you have the sport gauges up, and phone rings the answer/reject etc option comes up, but once you have answered and the call ends you need to go into the infotainment system, select telephone and hang up. Big oversight not to have a bespoke phone control button on the steering wheel - so useful on my Focus RS, miss it on the Cupra!
7. Is there an option to get text messages read out on the infotainment system? Haven't figured out if there is. Mine is the standard one, not the High version.

I like the subtle looks of the car and the performance it has when you floor it - surprises plenty of cars.

3 years left on PCP, unsure if I'll keep it but then not sure what there will be at the time to swap it for -- maybe a Cupra Ateca, or if released the 20V20 model (or what ever it will be called). What ever happens I will want high performance, 4wd and likely a DSG box. The commute to work is a bugger in a manual - an autobox is so much more relaxing for sure.

Cheers

I have the same cupra but only had it for 3 months same here no pops bangs but that’s not my thing anyway ,there’s a telephone symbol on the steering wheel mate to answer and cut off
Text messages can be read out on CarPlay
Fuel economy is about the same for me too

Slightly confused.

With an iPhone XS, 6S, 7 and 5S (mixture of my phones, work phone and wife’s phone):

On the MIB1 unit in my 280 you did have the button on the steering wheel to hang up.

‘Hey Siri’ worked perfectly through the Bluetooth to readout the text messages and send them too.

For my 300 with the same phones bar the 7 that went before the car not using CarPlay:

If you have the digital cockpit like I have, you lose the button on the steering wheel, but you can hang up from either the digital cockpit, or display on the main dash depending on where you initiated the call from.

If someone has called me then it appears on both.

Again Hey Siri works perfectly for reading out and sending texts.

Using CarPlay on the 300 with iPhone XS and 6S (Not tried it on the work 5S):

Nothing on the digital dash sadly but everything is on the central screen.

Personally I prefer using my phone via Bluetooth, find it works better and looks better with the car.

So either something’s wrong with the car or it’s dofferent for Android if your an android user.

Must look closer then - can't say I've noticed a telephone symbol on the steering wheel!

I don't have a flat spot, but that is a very high gear and low revs to expect blazing acceleration.
DSG Sport mode is feral, I only use it on very twisty roads, or in town to get the pops and farts.
On more open roads I use manual mode.

My phone is an iPhone 8.

Yes, mine has the digital cockpit, and yes, I can hang up from digital dash, but it's a pop up section on the screen, and with sport dash showing, the hang up button is no longer visible. Not sure if this is making sense?
I do use mine on Bluetooth - best way for sure to connect.

I agree - wasn't expecting blazing acceleration from 6th gear at 40mph, but there is a very clear flat spot - a very obvious lack of oomph. Only way is to floor the throttle but then she takes off. Makes sedate town driving interesting!

What do you mean by ‘sport dash’? The central rev counter? How have you got that on a year old car?

On the infotainment unit you can display gauges that show boost psi, oil temp, kw, g-force, water temp and a few others as dials - only 3 at a time.

Not central rev counter (sadly!).

Ahh I don’t bother with that.
