Random one, what does the boot area (underneath the carpet) look like without a space saver spare?

I’m part exchanging mine in a few weeks and it hasn’t got a space saver so was planning on taking mine out but don’t want to leave the next owner with a massive void where the wheel should be!

Mine originally came with the tyre repair kit. I then replaced this with the space saver kit. Do you not have the repair kit?

No, I just have a space saver kit as I ordered this with the car. What was beneath your boot carpet when you didn’t have the space saver, just a hole?

Will your dealer not drop some cash from your trade in value if you hand it in with nothing in there, as he will need to get hold of something to put in there to make it legal for sale?

I had a different issue once when I bought an almost new used car, there was sometime missing, I said that the car needed to have it as it was standard for that trim of car, dealer said "its a used car" - I did not agree so he had to order in/borrow/steal what was missing!

Edit:- maybe consider swopping stuff from new car to old and old to new.

The space saver is an optional extra and hasn’t been included in the part ex price.

They come with a Polystyrene insert that includes:

Locking Wheel Nut.
Wheel nut cap remover tongs
Pump with 12v cigarette lighter style connection
Puncture repair gel/foam of some kind.
Toe Hook.

Very similar (if not identical) to this. This one is the same as my ST one.

The full kit is probably close to £100 from the dealer. Seen the full kit for about £80 on ebay before now.

I actually have the full kit in my shed as I bought a spare wheel pack for £200 for my own ST. So depends if you're local or not (Wigan area).

That’s spot on mate! Thank you for this. Sadly not local to Wigan.

I’m surprised the dealer made a specific adjustment to the part ex value for an optional space saver spare wheel as most options don’t make that much difference to a car’s value (although the existence of certain options would make it more attractive to a would be buyer, and therefore easier to sell - assuming it’s realistically priced). Whether the car had a tyre inflation kit or space saver I wouldn’t have thought it’d make any difference to a dealer’s part ex value. Most dealers probably wouldn’t even look in the spare wheel well when assessing the car for a trade in value.

However, if the car had neither space saver nor tyre inflation kit, and the dealer was aware of this, then they may reflect this in a slightly lower part ex value, as they’d have to supply either one or the other when they resell the car to make it legal as @RUM4MO has said.

It hasn’t made any difference to the price as its been agreed over email with photos etc.

I was just wondering if I could take the space saver out and put it in the new car opposed to buy one again but looks like I’d end up leaving the new buyer without the stuff Damo listed.

I’ll just mention it to the dealer.

That's exactly what I agreed with the Dealer, just swap them over when you get the new car if it's a px.

I have always used a spacesaver kit on my last 8 cars (not all Seat) but asked the dealer to leave the inflation kit in the boot on delivery so I can swap to the next car. After all I've now paid for both kits!!

On the topic of space saver spares. Can anyone tell me what size I should have for as a spare for 18” alloys please? I have just checked what I have and it is a 16”!!! Never thought to check it before just presumed it was all correct and in order.

If you tell the dealer you're keeping the spare kit I doubt he'll bother charging you. They'll be able to put together the bits to go in there. I bought a 2016 Leon last year and it just had the foam, pump and wheel key in a bag. I wasn't bothered as I had a full jack kit in the house for it, just saying I doubt they'll be bothered.

Just make sure you leave the wheel key in the car!!!!

I’m just going to ask to swap the kit from the new one into my current car and vice versa.

16" is fine for your car. the overall diameter of the tyre will match what you already have.

18" is only needed for cars with bigger brakes (Cupra) where the 16" won't fit, or if you have Seat Sound, for the sub to sit inside.

If it's a problem then you can generally get the 16inch kit off eBay for something like £50. I got an unused one off a Scirocco for £48 delivered on my FR, then kept the compressor from mine and sold the out of date tyre sealant and the towing eye for about £23 minus postage. I'd have sold the polystyrene as well but it disintegrated when I pulled it out. Any tiny VAG related items seem to sell.
