Cambelt and waterpump change.

I own a 2013 Seat Leon 1.4 FR, I've had it since december and everything is fine with it so far, touch wood. However, from service records I can't see anything suggesting a cambelt and waterpump change has been done. The cars currently on 69,500 miles so I'm think it may be past due or needed to be done as soon as possible as a preventative? Can anyone help?

Mine needs doing as well. I noticed the fixed price from Seat was £500 or £600 with water pump. Does anyone know if Seat offer the water pump that doesn't have the moveable doodad that can seize or do they only offer the 'factory' one?

The water pump is on the other end of the engine - so there is no requirement to change this, just inspect the belt/pulley - unlike when normally on an engine the water pump is driven by the timing belt and failure will destroy the engine.
There is also some discussion on the belt change interval with the 1.4tsi - I believe there used to be no time interval specified - just miles - then Seat gave responsibility to the UK Seat dealerships to dictate timing belt change intervals, so obviously its easy for them to just say 5 years - Do a search on this forum, has been covered before.

The main water pump is driven by the timing belt, look at this video at 23:00 in. I know there's another water pump on these engines (an electric one?). Are you saying Seat change the main one anyway for £500 but change them both for £600 or is the extra £100 to change the main one only?

Judging by photo's of Seat using aftermarket header tanks - who knows what parts they use?
There have been several iterations of the electro-mechanical coolant pump. And they will be changed every 5 years - I recently did my timing belt and I used the latest iteration OE electro-mechanical pump - figuring that's how it's been designed and quicker warm-up will help MPG.

The original post is regarding an 1.4TSI engine - not our TDI's.
1.4TSI timing belt does NOT drive the coolant pump.
This is the coolant pump from a 1.4TSI - with it's small belt.

Sorry dude, getting my wires crossed regarding engine spec's :D. Does anyone know if the £500 Seat belt change for a 2.0TDI includes the pump then or is that £600?

I did my TDI timing belt before Christmas and cost £160 in parts including locking tool + £20 for some coolant.

I know, I am sorely tempted to do it myself. I have all the tools and I'm very confident working on my car. There are some very good videos on YouTube showing the entire job and it doesn't look too bad at all as long as you have plenty of time and don' t rush.

Wasn't too difficult - just quite a lot of 'stuff/pipes' in the way, but once that's moved quite straight forward. Took me about a day but that involved a bit of head scratching! and a couple of 'quirks' - i'll write an review on it soon when I have some time.

When I got mine done by local mechanic he had 2 options from TPS - one with dooda and one without. I went for the one without. No idea what the dealers do. Probably worth checking.
